I been trying to quit porn for the past three years and I keep failing. I just got my own place and I don't think I want Internet because the temptation is too great. Do you guys think that is too extreme? My biggest challenge is trying to stay away from the tube sites but there so accesible. You guys got any tips? Thanks

Let me tell you, it is not extreme, it's awesome an absolutely eliminates temptation. Imagine filling time in other ways...make a list of 20 things you could do than Facebook, P, Chat, cruse the net & land in shit. 1. Read a best seller on topic you like. 2. Walk or run, if not into it now. 3. Try a cool church. 4. Ask someone at work to lunch or dinner. 5. Call your grandmother. 6. Volunteer for 1 hour a week-mow a single mom's or widow's yard. 7. Write the outline of a book. 8. Cook a week of healthy meals. 9. Find a clean TV series, documentaries, etc. 10. Grow a few plants. I think you will find your mind more creative as you add the good and subtract the crap. 11. Contemplate on how those in the porn industry make $97,000,000,000 off your weakness, wreck your body, mess with your head and even get people hooked on drugs, for profit. Have a little righteous hate for these jerks for messing with your life.

Thanks for the tips. I realized many people have tried to talk me out of doing extreme things to defeat this demon. I guess people are comfortable when you fail. If you rise up to destroy your inner demons those same people become threatened by your ambition.

Start with a delay in Internet for 90 days. Tell friends AT&T can come out for a month. Don't even discuss your elimination of the Net. You being 26, may miss out on great years of your late 20s, if you on't take a very reasonable action and quit the net. You may need to get help on this site at a very public place, as there is good stuff on this site. If a buddy comes over, asks why no net, tell him you don't want porn in your house. You may start a great thing with a fellow traveler.

Think you will do it? Big bold step. I'll pray for your decision. Check back with me in a week. I have other ideas...

I'm in the same boat as you. I've been trying to quit for the last 3 years with limited success. I haven't had problems with the net since getting accountability software that my brother monitors. (He knows every site I visit). However, I've had major problems with movies on satellite TV. Last week I decided to get rid of my satellite TV. All I have is antenna channels. So far this is working for me and I don't regret it. (4 days into it). This seemed kind of drastic but I think it was the right decision for me. Good luck!

I'm beginning to realize that you have to be intentiona to fight porn. Right now I'm 3 days clean. Not much but it is a start. Some people don't understand extreme measures because everyone believes they can't live without technology.

When I was a kid there was no Internet. People read books. Learnt musical instruments. Went outside. Played sports. Socialized. Now all society does is stare at screens. To paraphrase the words of Harper Lee, "People have laptops, cellphones, and iPods, and minds like empty rooms."

Yes, friends, it's not extreme to rid your home of all the stuff that causes you to stumble. But there are many ways to cheat. I too, would consider the software to keep you clean. Imagine, if your mother was standing over you as you view your screens. I bet every choice you make would be clean choice to view. That is what the software does.

A very big downside to technology and so many forms of information access. Instant gratification!! Well, many of us are now alerted to our choices and the consequences of our choices. At least we got that going for us !

You don't need to get rid of the internet imo. It's part of the world we live in. Instead you need to start changing yourself. Do you have a strategy to give up P, or just the burning desire. You need both. Try doing a short period, then double it, then double it. You should then start building resistance, and making progress. You do not want to be in the same place in another 3 years down the road. Good luck!

I see your point. I'm looking for different strategies to help me battle. I agree getting rid of Internet is not going to change my heart. There are other ways to feed my lust outside the internet. I live in a city so that wouldn't be hard. It needs to be an internal change.
