blocking sites; what programs do you use?

I think I've been pretty good about being open with others about my problems with PMO. Vulnerability, I learned, was necessary to undue most of the shame about fapping and looking at porn. But simply being open hasn't been enough.

I'm also trying to control what sites I have access to on the internet. I have K9 installed on my computer, and the last time I saw my mom, I had her put on the administrative password on the program. I thought that the safe setting would be enough to block porn, but I discovered that there are ways of finding porn on supposedly innocent sites like Facebook. While one of my friends was at my house yesterday, I called my mom, gave the phone over to my friend, who then entered the K9 administrative password, and then I blocked Facebook and another site I discovered was not blocked by K9. This morning I discovered that twitter is also loaded with porn. I succumbed to PMO this morning, unfortunately. Google photos is another area I'm concerned about (not the same as google images which is blocked). Although I think I would have a hard time finding porn on google photos, I think I could find links there to other sites that would not be filtered.

Part of my problem is not just looking at porn, but looking for it. The search for porn is connected to the excitement of PMO. It's like a pre-layed track that once I fall onto it steers me until I find porn and fap. At this point, I feel like if I can restrict the social media sites I can go to, the problem of searching for porn will go away. I think K9 can solve my problems, but I'm wondering if anyone else out there has had more success with other programs?

    Hi Manestate,

That's a good question. There are a lot of stuff on the market in terms of programs. If you use Chrome or Firefox you can look at the store for extensions/Add-ons for porn blockers and there are a few.
Oddly enough, I think the best programs to help me avoid the temptation lately are browser extensions that just completely restrict my internet access, such as the ones that are meant to restrict your access on the browser so that you can focus on your work.

I do not know of anything to block P or anything tempting on FB other than to just be aware when it is there and have FB hide that from your feed immediately.

Sorry I'm not much help, but wanting to give some kind of encouraging reply. Good luck.

I personally started using OpenDNS for blocking sites which is super easy to set up and applies to all the devices on the router set up. I think there is an option for you to block certain categories of websites in OpenDNS for free.

Open DNS messes with my network printer. I use a program called Safe Eyes, which gives you a license for 3 computers, and applies your settings to everything it's installed on. I can get around it, like any software, but it's good for slowing me down and giving me time to think.

I've personally used Cold Turkey which is good for temporarily blocking time wasting sites as well as P.

  6. Does anyone know of any programs available on mobile? I do most of my web browsing on my iPad.

    I use accountable2you.

One license runs on my laptop, phone and pad. Like you though, I've figured all the work a rounds, so there really isn't an iron clad solution. What worked for me was developing a relationship with an accountability partner and being completely honest.

Best wishes... Fight the good fight!
