Recently, I have skidded into a series of porn and masturbation binges. For me, porn is what fuels my masturbation. My goal has been to rid myself of tech devices on which I can use the internet. I have to block the gateway through which porn enters my life. This has become clearer and clearer. It's tough to make this happen because I love being online. Recently, however the main thing I've used the internet for is porn. So, sadly/gladly this chapter of my life (online) must end. I'm getting rid of my macbook air, and my pc laptop, and my iphone, and my android phone, and I've already gotten rid of my ipod touch. I DO however, have a new laptop on its way to my house and I'm terrified that I will misuse is when it gets here. Cutting off internet service is not an option for me because I live at home still and its my parent's wifi. I do need a laptop for school, so any tips on how to not use my laptop for porn would be helpful. Thanks guys.

Its all about discipline. Its a great thing that you've identified that the computer and internet can be a trigger in themselves. Now what you need to do is crack down on yourself and put some structure into your computer habits. This is what I have been doing and recommend for you to do. Before you turn on your computer write down on a piece of paper the things you are going to do on the computer. And once you complete your tasks turn it off and walk away. If you forgot to do something wait a couple hours and then make another list. Also NoFap is just a stepping stone into living a better more fulfilling life. If you are going to quit porn you need something to take its place in your life. This is your chance to develop skills, meet people, learn about yourself, and to be more overall awesome and badass. You got this man just be strong and disciplined and you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish!

There are some pretty good filtering software. I would recommend Net Nanny (although its not free), but it has pretty good filtering capabilities. You can also look at others: windows parental filter (not very good), mobicip and opendns. These will atleast give time for the urge to die down.

Besides what was said about filtering software (which personally has not worked since I got addicted to blocking and unblocking sites instead) and having self discipline (which REALLY does work, and is the toughest thing to accomplish), what has really helped me is also finding hobbies online.

For me that would be staying up to date on what new products people come out with in producthunt.com as well as practicing as a hobby web design in Treehouse. Find your hobby. This way when you are thinking of misusing your laptop you'll be involved in your hobby instead.

Coupled with self discipline this really does the trick. If you want to do the Net Nanny or other filters, I recommend having someone else set the password... which worked temporarily for me but may have better results for you...

Finally, this is no pseudo-science: Reality is that life is short and a one time deal. Every day is one day less to live. Really. People call this carpe diem, the new kids call it "Yolo", and others have said "this life shall pass". This shit ends mighty quick and thats it.

Once I really really got that through my head, abstaining from porn has been easier, and self discipline just a little easier too.

Thanks guys; these are great suggestions. Obviously I have been struggling (just check out my counter) but I'm ready to put some new strategies into play. I'm going to be carefully planning my internet time in advance and filling my free time with new and positive activities. [credit goes to user "thelongclimb"]

I will be tightening up my google safe search settings [I credit "mvk06" for inspiration]. I personally don't think that filters are are going to be a cure-all for me. It is, however, something I will keep in mind as a strategy to try in the future.

I really like the idea of having an online hobby to take the place of porn. When I was younger, if I wasn't doing porn I was on the MMO "Runescape".. maybe not the best online hobby but it did cause me to spend less time on porn. I tend to get addicted to anything on the internet.. like YouTube, Facebook, etc. so if I find an online hobby, I need to make it something productive, since I will likely end up addicted. I really like the point that life it too short to spend fapping and gazing at porn; a truth I plan to focus on in the weeks ahead. [Thanks "ruso" for both topics]
