At what point is it porn? At what point is masturbation? The grey zone.

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by +TenPercent, Apr 21, 2021.

  1. Just getting my thoughts out . . .

Penetration is definitely porn. Nudity usually is (though it can be artsy). For me, I know that I can't really be looking at swimsuit or lingerie ads. If I looked at a little, I wouldn't call it a slip. These days I hardly look at that stuff at all. I think I'm pretty solid on the P front . . . though I need to be mindful about rated R movies. If I see something and get turned on, so be it. If I go back to replay that scene, I'm headed in the wrong direction.

Masturbation. Similar struggle. If I look at porn and beat it until I cum, that's pretty obvious. What if I touch just a little in the shower, or rub myself through my pants. How many tugs does it take to cross the line? I've had many minor slips. Touching for a few seconds, maybe going until I get a full erection (sometimes just to check that I still can!) and twice in the past 85 days of no MO, I touched myself for quite a few minutes, taking myself close to the point of orgasm but stopped, perhaps even felt some of the feelings of orgasm but stopped before ejaculation. That's why I write "no MO" - I have not M'd to the point of O since 1/25/21.

Recently I got triggered by something I read in a book, a thriller. I was going to tie that in here, but have since decided to make it a separate thread.

  2. The grey zone...you weren't kidding. Okay, here's my personal opinion, it's all about intent:
    • When I shower I lather up down there; but my intent is to get clean, not to get aroused. So, no, I wouldn't count that.
    • From time to time I'll grab my package through my pants to adjust myself; but the intent is to get comfortable, not aroused. Again, I wouldn't count that, either.
    • Now, for the really grey one: if you are stroking for the sole purpose of seeing if you can still get an erection, then, I'm gonna say that doesn't count. And I'm saying that because it seems like your intention here is to see if you are healing, if your dick is gonna respond to stimulation the way it should. You aren't doing it to get aroused, even though you have to get aroused to find out if you can still get hard.
    • The last one though, about taking yourself close to the point of orgasm but stopping, perhaps even feeling some of the feelings of orgasm but stopping before ejaculation; that's edging, my friend, and that one sounds like your intent is the arousal. And that one I would count.
Anyway, those are my thoughts on the situation. Stay strong.

My opinion is that if I look at any images for the purpose of arousal it's porn. Even chicks with clothes on.
Same for touching. If the purpose is arousal then it's at least edging.

It is best to avoid all of those obviously. For me it is all about duration. If it is just a few seconds, whatever it is, and I close it then my will power won and I don't call it a relapse. Longer than that and it has always caused me to masturbate to completion. Not once can I look at porn for an extended period time and not relapsed within a 24 hour time frame.
