When you relapse its like the door has been open. One of the most important parts of this process is to overcome the chaser effect. If you relapse its an oopportunity to GROW. Only if you don't do it again for 3 days + you've made huge strides. You can go 100 days and relapse, but if you give I to the chaser effect you're less different. It might be advisable at the start of your journey to tactical relapse. So relapse once every 5 days. If you can't seem to beat 19 days. What that'll do is help destroy the chaser effect after each relapse meaning when you do longer streaks your more likely to get back on the wagon than binge.
That actually makes a lot of sense. If I knew about this practice It could have saved me lots of months of systematic relapses.
It's a little silly to encourage intentional relapse. In fact, that's some of the worst advice I'm yet to read on here.
I disagree! Holding these kind of thoughts in your mind will not make you heal Think about it... A relapse IS a failure. Relapsing means you weren't strong and determined enough to follow your ultimate goal. With your technique, you are bringing failures on purpose. We're all capable of going cold turkey and never consume PMO again. We just need to start believing it. Your intention is amazing because you are trying to destroy the guilt that is felt when people relapse. You're trying to make people heal, which is awesome. I just think that it is not the right way if you want people to truly heal.
Its like quitting smoking but letting yourself smoke every 5 days, you're fueling your addiction and allowing it to continue. Instead you need to learn from each relapse and what allowed it to happen (its almost always your thoughts) and make a plan to prevent it from happening next time.
I have to agree that something needs to be done about the chaser effect. Not too sure about "tactical relapse" ... Knowing myself, I'd could tactically relapse for decades probably.
Unless you mean like just mb with no p ... I think there's definitely an argument for that. What i am personally trying to avoid is these long, frequent and innapropriate sessions of absorption and edging with porn (sometimes combined with substance abuse). Mb by itself is laughably insignificant as it takes very little time out of my day and doesn't leave me with residual shame and rumination. That said I also feel that there may be psychospiritual benefits from full abstinence from sex not in a committed relationship.
Im saying the purpose is to defeat the chaser effect through training. So hitting 5 days then relapsing, 5 days and relapse. So in effect your removing the chaser effect, itll break it and allow longer streaks later
Were talking the chaser effect here, its about removing that to assist you in hitting longer streaks without that magnet pull
This is for those who hit a wall after 10 days or so. Were removing the chaser effect. To newbies. This is for those who are consistently relapsing and see no way oyt
JoeinMD was saying the chaser effect lasts up to 3 days. If you're going through a consistent relapse and breaking, the chaser its gonna give you a easier time later. Itll go. You won't feel compelled. Consistent relapse is a way of facing the chaser and moving on. You're saying hello come here then saying fuck off by abstaining
Chaser effect is always going to be there because its natural and we all get it. In fact I'd consider training yourself to beat the chaser effect is only going to be harder than abstaining completely because when you allow yourself to PMO after a long streak it means nothing to give in again an hour or so later because you have nothing to lose. I admire you wanting to help people who are having constant relapses but they need to search for the root of whats causing them to relapse rather than fighting the addiction with what they're addicted to.
