My memory and concentration is slowly bettering. My memory/concentration has reduced the last years thanks to pmo. I had some trauma's during my puberty, and I tended to forget everything just to get away of the bad feelings. This has also decreased my memory. Question: Has anyone here have lower memory thanks to pmo or trauma?
Yep, used to be a Straight A's student but ever since I started pmo'ing since the sixth grade I've always struggled to get good grades, Now I mostly get C's and I've also failed quite a few times. PMO has made my mental clarity go down the drain and it sucks. It's the main the reason why I'm doing Nofap, to get my mental strength back.
I'd say that my intellectual abilities, probably including memory, decreased as the level of my addiction increased, but I never reached a level where it became a problem. It makes sense that memory and concentration get worse when we are addicted to PMO. This addiction, just like probably most addictions, trains our brain to seek instant gratification, while memory and concentration require spending effort for a deferred gratification. We don't see the point of making this effort when we can get satisfaction from PMO.
My memory is weird. I can take part in film quizzes and the sort and do well, but I'll never remember the grocery list. I dunno if it has something to do with the pmo. I thought it was more about pmo making you lax and inattentive - like a reaaally early case of senility. The brain is a muscle - if you train it to be inattentive, it will be.
Thanks for the replies. I think it has mainly to do with my depression and trauma's I had. Having problems concentrating in things I don't like. I hope this things will go away as farther I go in nofap.
Right and I would also add that the search for something I want to see is an exploration in attention deficit which is interesting in and of itself given that its a profoundly visceral series of images. I have experienced a sustained lack of concentration for some time as a result.
Lol . I can see how my post can read like something out of a textbook. I don't use English for much else than reading so it makes sense.
Memory won't improve, but discipline certainly will. When you have instantaneous access to materials for PMO in the digital age, it's easy to get distracted, and therefore affect your attention span and ability or motivation to retain information. So perhaps through the self-imposed changes, you'll teach yourself to focus better.
I would have to disagree with this. My memory seems to be getting much better ever since giving up PMO. Theres less brain fog where I can't remember a word etc. Although for sure it helps with focus too. Im really happy with the better memory as my short term memory was awful before. Cheers to NoFap!
It has been my experience that memory is directly related to my ability to maintain a sustained level of concentration. If I am fully present when receiving information, Beit from the page or listening, I am more likely to retain it. I think that we are all correct here. Certainly self imposed discipline is crucial and it leads to maintaining the conviction to steer clear of the things that cause us such turmoil. This only strengthens our mental abilities in the long run.
