Hello everyone, I need some help. I work in a remote mine camp on Baffin Island, which is on the opposite end of Canada from where we live (in BC). We've got mobile fence on my phone, and I've asked my SO to put some accountability software on my phone also before I leave so that she can have the peace of mind in knowing what is going on every day digitally for me. Where we are coming to a standstill on, comfort wise, is how I can make her feel more secure about my usage of the work PC, there are really strict content filters on the internet at work, so there aren't any questions let sites that I can search or access out there. Part of my recovery is that I've agreed to stay off of all social media except Facebook, and I only go on Facebook when the two of us are together. So the main concern for my SO is that I'll use the work PC to go on Facebook or Instagram or something else. I do have to use this computer for work related paperwork while I'm there, and I only have access to it during work hours, not in my downtime, I can't avoid being on the computer. I know that I do not want to break our boundaries, and I do not want to break my promises to her and disappoint her at all. I just need ideas on how I can make her feel secure about my computer usage while I'm on the other side of the country, some useful boundaries I can set in place to help.
have her change your password for those sites. and if you need them while you are away, you must contact her for them. when you are done for that day, have her change them again
I ask because my SO has a work computer and a work phone. I have the passwords for whenever I want to log on. The computer doesn't leave the office but he has a glass door that doesn't lock. This makes me more comfortable. I do have to be at the office to check the computer tho
All of the work units are monitored by the IT guys to make sure there isn't anything inappropriate being looked at
I don't have an employment handbook for the mine, I work for a contractor on the site, so I've got safety training from the mine, but no employee info from them
Anyway to get it? Or is company policy online? I was able to find my SO company info online and his company is very small, however they have been around awhile. Just a idea... I do realize not applicable to everyone
My problem is p-subs like fitness models or tattoo models, whatever, on Instagram. Neither of us have Instagram accounts but those pages are accessible to anyone with internet access, and it's not technically inappropriate content so it wouldn't be against the rules of the mine and it wouldn't be blocked. I don't think there is a solution aside from trust, but we aren't there yet. So yeah, scary and uncomfortable for suuuuuure.
Most businesses, (not sure about mines...) But most.... Don't allow social media without login. (because of communication with family) & that's their in house computer set up It's for companies protection They don't want to be risk viruses on the pages or links without being able to trace it to a person. @lovebug_km So if he does, he will be fired. Just saying. Not sure if that helps.
Not only that, but if I did decide to follow any of these avenues, I'd lose the single most important part of my life, which is @lovebug_km, and THAT I am not willing to do. I will not allow myself to compound the problems I've already caused.
So we have had this issue. Mine problem with the work computer is psubs, too. His work blocks outright porn. But like I know he has been on Craigslist at work (looking for cars). And none of the things he was using for Psubs were blocked at work, so still an issue. So this doesn't make me completely feel better, because I know he can alter it, but it helps because he knows at any point I can look at it. It was his idea that he has to be signed into his google account and it tracks everything in the "my activity". He also made himself "under 13" on there I believe so it has like a safe search thing on it. I know he could access anything on there and I wouldn't know. I haven't found a way around it yet and I've just had to let it go. I wish there were a better solution.
My work blocks all porn and every form of social media. But not Amazon, thank God. I'd never get my Christmas shopping done of they did that. As for hubby, his work blocks the same and his computer is completely out in the open. And for asking the IT guys...he is one of them. Lol Maybe a dumb question...what would a company or corporation use Craigslist for?
