Thinking about deleting my Facebook account

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Sep 3, 2017.

  1. Hey everyone I am thinking about deleting my Facebook account everytime I go on it I seem to get a bit depressed so I am curious did anyone else here delete it and do you think it helped with your reboot?

Way to go brother. I just deleted my Facebook account and I feel happy that there are people we can relate. As long you feel happy do the right thing.

Deleted it 3-4 years ago. I am not sure anymore, never missed it.
You can live without it and you will feel lighter, it was like taking a huge burden of me.

Agreed! Because a lot of social media outlets only offer BS.

Deleted it a while ago and am very grateful that I did.

Social media caused a lot of anxiety for me, feels much lighter now that I'm free of it.

The people who I want to keep in contact with, I keep in contact with.

It sure is. It's only useful to stay in touch with family members and friends, that's it

I didn’t delete the account so my coworkers around the world can get in touch via messenger. Also, my work puts out some official notices like snow closures and promotions there first, but the app is not on my devices anymore, nor do I browse. I’ve setup what I need on RSS notification and that’s it.

Best thing I ever did. Too much vitriol, time wasting, psubs, and so on.

I don't go on it anymore but the account is still there. I don't like the whole "OMG GUYZ IM SICK OF FB I DELETE ACCOUNT NOW OK!!" that tends to happen with people that decide to unplug. I'm not saying this is necessarily the case with anyone in this thread, but even when some people leave this forum they feel the need to make a big song and dance about it. Why not just stop going onto it?

  11. i dont use fb either. too much of a burden. i got an account though because i use messenger.

You don't need it. It wastes as much time as porn. Text your friends and see them in person. If you can't do that, actually call them. It's been huge therapy for me and has become one of my go to's when I'm getting the urge to pmo.

I didn't deactivate my FB account, but I did block it on my internet filter, and I deleted the app from my phone. So now if I want to browse my news feed, I have to do it on one of the common-area computers at my apartment complex. I think I've posted three things in the last three months. I used to post three things a day.

I actually disable my FB account once or twice a year, but not for fap reasons. Each time I "take a break" my breaks turn out longer. Now it's basically two-three months each time I do it and each time I feel free. Someone said above that FB doesn't have anything to do with depression -- it can. Absolutely. When everyone is posting only when good things happen, and that's all you see, we get a skewed view of reality. Everybody has struggles and hardship, but for many it's taboo to post it ("Oh, look, they're complaining about life AGAIN.").

Social media can be devastating to some. My gf's sister is going through some problems because of what people are posting on social media (pretty much bullying). Social media itself is not the source, of course, but the effects are definitely real and do affect her.

FB doesn't actually delete your account. If you log in with the same email and pw, it's like your account was never deleted in the first place. I highly recommend taking a break from it. Try a short time span, maybe a few weeks, to see how it affects you positively or negatively. If you feel better, try it again for a longer period of time.

I did the big delete, and have not looked back. The thing about Facebook is, I could never get over how "F for Fake" (to take from Orson) some folk's accounts were. People I knew in real life, for years, had posts and profiles which made me think "Who is this person? Not my friend.". You realize who your real friends are after leaving Facebook.
