"I like P/I'm quitting MO but no P" - Why?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by TheSpaniardDude, Sep 24, 2017.

  1. "I like erotism."

I think it's a healthy and fascinating part of romance and sexuality. It surrounds us, influences our daily interactions with people, knowingly or not. It's a plain fact that there are a myriad of things in this world that arouse us for the most silly, subtle and subconscious reasons. Denying our impulses and triggers (healthy and unhealthy ones) or failing to understand them is repression and never leads to good. That's why it even has its own field of research, sexology (plus several disciplines of psychology and psychiatry).

I believe my addiction has fueled my insecurities and one of my goals has always been getting rid of it to be able to freely explore my own mind and body in real life, with real people, no matter how utterly embarrassed and sometimes even "wrong" that may (and will) make me feel. For that, porn must go, very probably forever.

Therefore I can understand if someone says "I like stories", because erotism "explained", with plot and development (both in characters and situations) is intriguing and amusing, it's been around since the dawn of Humanity and really easy to get hooked to. It makes sense.

    But liking porn? Seriously?

What is the point? What is there to like? We are talking about the mainstream, stereotypical north american style porn, right?

[There's also the one from the other side of the Pacific and you know what country I'm talking about, that one with censorship and creepy piano music and Godzilla. If you honestly like that for the sake of watching it... dude. I mean, no shame right but Jesus man.]

Porn is void and ridiculous and no matter the extent of my own addiction or personal opinions, it unbiasedly is fake, artificial and pointless and will always be. That's why it's porn. Porn with plot is explicit erotica, which is not the same. Or that series about dragons and incest and whatever, it's an overused joke already.

So my question goes for all those people who maintain that they want to quit MO without quitting P, or that they enjoy P as it is, or that they are addicted to MO alone. You're not exactly watching Fellini's or Kubrick's, it's just... well, what it is. What's your reasoning?

Do you also read playboy for the articles? This is some high quality rationalizing. Nicely done.

  4. I agree with Spaniard. I am not going to discuss whether Erotica might be healthy or not, but I do think that while rebooting it's only a Psub, however it might be healthy for some people OUTSIDE of rebooting. Atleast I am very sensitive to stimulus and I think that is mostly true of most rebooter whether they would like to admit it or not.

There is no good reason to watch porn per se though, within or without rebooting.

    That's my 2cents.

  5. I'm putting erotica away from my life at least until I finish my reboot so my personal appreciation for it is irrelevant, I used it as an example of how some things have logic for me while others still are a complete mystery.

My question is still up. Someone who can elaborate?
