After my brain returns to normal, can I return to P without MO?

As I am on my second (truly second day despite starting the counter yesterday) day of the NoFap challenge, I have been wondering.

Once my brain and sex drive recovers, is it alright if I return to look at porn (maybe a while after it's recovered just to be sure) but without the intention of masturbating or orgasming while looking at it?

While I do aim to control myself better once this has passed, I would like to return to looking at fetish porn and other such things some day, mainly since I met so many friends via it and I do intend to write some fiction with it (as a way of stretching my writing muscles so to speak) someday. Along with other non sexual things.

I ain't tempted to break this 60 day challenge, but I would like to know other's thoughts on this.

I think you're way too early in your NoFap journey think about going back. This sounds like a rationalization to me. Like "if I have 'normal' brain, I can watch porn without messing it up." I don't believe your brain will stay normal if you go back to watching porn, even if its for literary purposes.

I imagine there are better ways to collect literary material about fetishes than watching porn. I'm sure there are internet communities where people share stories. But some might consider those stories 'porn in text,' but it'd likely be less harmful than visual fetish porn. I'm just thinking as I type at this point.

I don't think its a good idea to go back, and, for now at least, it'd probably be best to just focus on keeping away from it. See how you feel after you reach your 60 day goal.

Trust me you end up PMO once you look at porn.

Think about how this addiction all started. You may have started with M, but the P is what made you become a compulse wanker wasn't it?

I'd say P is the huge problem here. People jacked off long before P became as readily available and in so many varieties at it is now. I'd say a big reset is needed before you make the judgement call if you can switch over to MO again.

If you have been associating P with MO, any MO session will automatically flood your mind with pornographic images from the past. You have created strong neuropathways with PMO. Good news it that your brain will rewire with time. But I agree with above posters, you are still very early in your reboot, and only time will tell.

    Thanks for the replies.

For some elaboration, I didn't used to masturbate when I was addicted to porn, but over time it became associated with it.

After the 60 day period, I may have to evaluate to see if I have recovered enough before looking at it, seeing as my willpower has improved somewhat in recent days (since I cut out a thing from my diet that was making me ill in both mind and body), but only if I feel like how I did before I became addicted.

I have to find something else to do during the day off the computer. Unfortunately where I live it's a little too quiet and inactive to really find other things to spend my day doing. I know someone will come and say "Bullshit! You can talk with friends or go and hang out" but unfortunately that isn't really the option where I live.

So are you implying I should give up my friends too?

And for the record, before someone else moans at me, I am actually going to ensure I don't actually look at any porn for at least 60 days. At some point, possibly after 4 months, since by then I expect to be able to have some good life changes in place, I will be able to control my habits better without looking at it almost every hour of the day.

I am sorry for asking this as a question, I thought this forum was for that. But I guess I was wrong.

I am fighting the urges the best I can right now. My sleeping has been worse than usual because of it too. And trust me, I ain't going to go back to it for a looooooong time. I was just wondering if it would be somewhat safe to do it after I have recovered with a new mindset.

But then again, who knows what my mindset will be like. Maybe I will not want to look at fetish porn anymore after I have recovered? Maybe I will still look at it but restrain it to once or twice a week. Who knows. I expect the latter but either will be good in my eyes.

I expect to be able to once I am further into the NoFap challenge.

  14. You will probably change the point of view on porn after you quit it once for all. That is like an alcoholic who has beaten addiction goes back to alcohol after rehab.

If they have a similar problem as you, absolutely. They will drag you back down back to that area.

You are in the right place, we are just giving you an honest answer. The logic you are using is not coherent. And this is a warning, that you will not be able to go back to it without becoming hooked again. Do not be so whimsical to think that a 'new mindset' will 'protect' you from relapse. This is supremely foolish.

Hey man it a interesting thread. I think the other guys are just trying to show care and concern for you. For my money I say steer clear. P is designed to get you off but ultimately you'll need to decide for your self. Having said that it's a great question and your right this is the place to ask I mean where else are you going to ask the question. the strength of the sight is so many viewpoints so you can weigh up the options I don't agree with some of the views of other's here. Mostly I do but I appreciate that by listening I can understand why I think what i do. Anyway be encouraged and please keep on asking Q's I plan too. Joe

You wont make 90 days without changing your mindset, you need to accept that P can no longer be who you are. Ever since I have the days have been flying by :) Good luck!

This is the place to ask these questions but we cant give you the answer you want to hear, if you've suffered from an addiction to this your always going to be susceptible to relapses. Hopefully by the end of 90 days you wont want to return to your old ways any ways.

Thanks for the new replies, more useful than some of the earlier ones.

About my friends, they are very respectful over my choice to abstain. So they aren't likely to try and bring up these various subjects to me with that in mind. Then again, I did tell them not to in anyway while I do this. There was an accidental conversation which had some sexual elements to it, which was due to a force of habit but even stuff like that was too stimulating for me. So talking about sexual turn ons is also not allowed in my books.

As of now, my penis is mostly flat (getting semi-weak morning wood however) and I am having memory flashes of porn I used to look at. I still can't stop thinking about it but I am fighting it hard.
