My wierd sense of discipline

    Although I'm quiet new and I haven't made many friends I felt compelled to make this post.
    I have a wierd understanding of what discipline is and how it should be applied in life. Basically, many things are wrong with me apart from porn addiction. I do not study much, do a lot of games and sit in a slouched positon. When I feel motivated and compelled to take action, I try to change everything in a positive manner. I try to study all the time, bring a complete end to entertainment and stuff and try to sit upright. For a 14 year old like me, it is obviously very hard to keep going on with such extremes, especially the sitting upright part, I can't sit that way for more than 15 minutes and when I give up I have such a massive amount of guilt I completely go back to the old and worse me. I also try to fix my moral values in this time, such as trying to be more manly, not cursing and not gossiping or engaging in idle and unproductive thoughts, this is also pretty hard for me and simply overburdening to do in a very small amount of time. To put it simply, when I try to improve myself I do it the hard way which sends me back to my old self within a few hours or even minutes. When I try to do it moderately I feel like Im doing it wrong and have guilt again. Can anyone relate? Any suggestions?

    you seem to be quite mature for a 14 year old....which is good
    when i was at your age i was just like a teenage next door kind of person.........good old days
    but yes you are on right track

    I think you need to realise that improvement is a marathon, and not a sprint. Perhaps you do, but what I mean by that is to take things one step at a time. Just as a huge task is nothing more than a thousand smaller tasks bundled together, you should focus more on day-by-day improvements rather than expecting such dramatic changes within a short period of time.

    If you dig for anything wrong that you’ve done, ponder about what you can do the next day to make it right. Don’t think of yourself as a total failure simply because you’ve done something wrong. Failures are opportunities to learn, through wisdom rather than just knowledge, on how to mend something.

    People quit things because they set extraordinarily high goals without some path to get there, then they unsurprisingly fail. It’s vital that you not only set goals, but also have a plan to attain that goal.

    When I kept that in mind, when I was around your age, it helped me tremendously.

    That is exactly what I've been trying to do, but the guilt is overwhelming, perhaps I need to learn how to ignore it, thanks!

    There is no fear of failure when you came for the fight and not for the trophy. There is no real easy way of doing those things, there is only the hard way, and that involves a lot of pain. You should embrace the pain, learn to enjoy it... that shame that you feel is what is pushing you to be better in the first place. Why would you even try to improve if you would've been happy with yourself?
