You don't start over when your counter hits zero

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Oct 13, 2018.

  1. I dont know if this has been covered before. But I have seen people get really down on themselves when they relapse after 60-500 days and theit counter hits zero. Understandable if you have the perspective that you loose all progress.

But in my opinion you do not loose all progress. The efforts are not just gone. The counter is deceptive in that way. You are loosing one day. You are not loosing the 60-500 days you didn't pmo. It's better to go 30 days and relapse one day and have a zero counter showing than to pmo for 30 days straight and then stop and have a counter showing 5 days. One guy didn't pmo for 30 days, another for 5. It's just a one day relapse. Think of it like a % of your life.

Relapsing is just dangerous because you are triggering an old addiction and have a high likelihood that you will start the habit of binging on p and m again and falling into the vicious cycle.

My overall point is don't get two down on yourself because that will just not help much. Bad self esteem that comes from breaking your streak does not help you not relapse again the next day. I would argue that if you feel horrible about yourself it makes you more suceptibe to relapse. Just learn from mistake. You would just need to really focus the next week after 1st day relapse or so in order to stop the habit from building back up and falling back into the trap.

This is my opinion. Lmk if you have thoughts on this

You are right, one relapse after 100 days doesn’t undo the benefits of those 100 days.

  3. I’ll be honest relapsing has always put me back to square one regarding withdrawal symptoms and porn induced ed. Only since committing seriously to this have I noticed the benefits and getting my life back on track.
