    Introduction

In a group, we recently read the book, “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg. In it, he discusses the hidden power of the famous 12 step program: the ability to change habits. Over the coming weeks, together we’ll discuss the steps, discovering possibilities together on how we can advance in our recovery. Due to the rules of this site, all steps will have options to consider from a secular or spiritual point of view, so all may use it, just as my prior writings have been. In line with the program, the advice you see are the opinions of those who give them, so take what you like and leave the rest.

Enabling Objectives: At the end of this, we should be able to:

-Identify how we knew we were at “rock bottom.”

-Identify how we got to rock bottom.

-Recognize that what we’ve tried to solve all our problems hasn’t been effective.

-Make a searching moral inventory of the good and bad parts of ourselves and what we’ve done.

-Tell another person in confidence our moral inventory.

-Prepare ourselves to let go of our shortcomings and problematic behaviors.

-Believe that we’re ready to let go of these things.

-Make a list of those who we have wronged and determine how we can pay penance for those things.

-Where appropriate, apologize for our behavior and pay penance, but never in a way that harms others.

-Continue to take inventory of ourselves.

    -Help Others.

-Potentially do things I haven’t thought of yet.

I hope to see you soon regarding this recovery effort and feel free to chime in at anytime to provide constructive advice.

Read the book before Christmas. Trying to find triggers is the most difficult for me. Sometimes being in a habit for so long the original triggers get lost. I am sure that Boardum and needing an excape are triggers that I wrestle with today.
