I'm starting to feel that counting days of no PMO is kinda worthless because you counting the days won't really matter because it's really about what you become in those days that really matters, like are you becoming more positive, are you more social, are you more confident? But I understand that setting goals for a set amount time such as going 30 Days without PMO would motivate us addicts to keep going and to continue to improve our lives. So do you y'all think that us addicts get caught up in counting days but focus little on becoming a better person or do you think us addicts improve while we count the days without PMO. I know it's kinda of irrelevant post but I want to hear people's take on it.

I agree with you. It's nice to have a definite count when you are first starting, but it soon becomes an unimportant matter. After around 2 months of being PMO-free I stopped counting my days and started focusing more on inward change and my attitude. I didn't really care how many days I had gone as long as I was adhering to my new lifestyle.

Also, one thing that I always tell people when they set a goal for themselves is this: don't make your goal an endpoint. Milestones are fine, but what happens when you reach them? Do you just start over? That's not what NoFap is about.

  3. I have a counter but I don't count on it, if that makes sense? I'm looking at a life change and I understand that while the ticker says 90 days the reality is I only get one day at a time to live the life I want. Heck, I could die tomorrow, so I'm going to try my best to make this day the best PMO free day of my life.

Not exactly, but I believe it helps.

I mean, when you have the number in your head it reminds you of how much time you devoted to beat PMO.
Alcoholics or drug addicts do it as well, it's a well known technique.

  5. Worthless? No. Unimportant, yes.

Once you're past a month, they become unimportant because knuckling down on rewiring is the key thing. That is my experience.

Seeing 22 days on my counter has motivated me this weekend not to throw away my progress, which is why it's not worthless.

It matters to me right now....Seeing 21 days on the counter encourages me not to spill my power all on a tissue and to instead transmute it to something productive....

For what it's worth, I reset my counter a couple of nights ago. I felt as if I were looking at it too often. I felt kind of bad about doing it, because it shows others that it can be done. But at the same time, I had to know I was doing this for the right reasons. I had to convince myself that I'm committed to this way of life and not meaningless numbers. I feel like a slave that has broken his chains and just wants to run and not look back. I remember when you befriended me. I spied some of your posts. And I envy you. You're incredibly young and way ahead of your years. Wish I could go back in time. Now I'm old and ugly. But I'm glad you found this site.

The past doesn't matter at all man. The fact you tryna change at this very moments shows the type of character you have and that your willing to change. Don't worry about the past focus on the future and continue to do the right thing. Also use the things you learn from your past experience and use them to your advantage, use them to help you grow. Peace

I think that the counter helps. It works much the same as an alcoholic counting the days/months/years sober. But, like the sober alcoholic, without some serious self work, it is all for nothing. We need to work on ourselves to see a real difference.

  11. I think it's both good and bad, but I have noticed my longest streaks are while not paying attention to the counter.

  12. I agree that the first 30 days one sort of needs the motivation of the day counter perhaps, but after that it's simply one day at a time or moment to moment, because life only really is moment to moment. Life is here and now. That's all. The idea of "resting on your laurels" doesn't apply to addicts, it's constant vigilance. But we must remember to stay at ease even when exerting effort, we must remember to be gentle and compassionate at all times, but always fully aware!
