Excellent article. Things never thought of when I'm caught up in the moment. Rationalize everything and get to the instant gratification. My #1 rationalization probably, was considering porn as "art" and that I was a "connoisseur" practicing discretion. Ha! Yeah, right. fapfapfap Almost always knew I was bullshitting myself because of the let-down afterward, cleaning up, deleting files, etc. We know it's wrong behavior, but the addiction hits and the mind twists it into being all right.
There is no more dangerous thing than our own minds and its ability to rationalize. I used to do the same thing, look how lucky these people are, getting paid to have sex, who wouldn't want that job. But when you read about the people in the industry, and realize how engineered everything, and the wake of destruction left behind, you really start to say to yourself, "do I want to be support such vile stuff?!?!" I use this stuff as a deterrent, I fill that I need to fill my mind with the truth and not the lies. Stay strong and beat this thing! (I apologize for the pun, it wasn't intended).
Some of the link on that website are triggering... I just went searching for some triggers . I was able to stop myself though. Good article. If I was a woman I'd be terrified of pornography too... pornography basically says that violence against women is okay, that they like it, and of course we have higher rates of rape and domestic abuse to prove that men are believing this pernicious lie.
That awards child custody to women 80% of the time, constantly runs commercials about dopey dads who would be lost without some woman nagging their ears off and is on the cusp of electing a female president. Plenty of good reasons to quit porn without this feminist bs.
I certainly feel where you are coming from himmelstoss, I am no fan of feminism or neofemism because I believe they take it too far the other way and distort what is natural. BUT; Society does objectify women, just as they do men. Today, I saw a picture of a man without a shirt in a woman's office, now let me say, this is a very professional setting! And let me say, if that same picture was of a woman dressed, you know, scantily, then this would be the rage and in HR! A double standard for sure. But the point of the culture is the pornification of our culture. I have four daughters and two sons. And to be honest, I wished none of them would ever see porn, it is such a very bad representation of human sexuality that for anyone young, it would truly distort you view on sexuality, as it has done already to our youngest generation. Outlaw it, HELL NO! That would be a freeway to HELL for sure. Take responsibility as parents, HELL YEAH, teach your children about love and human sexuality, DO NOT LET PORN DO IT! It is up to us to abstain and not support porn, not as feminist, but as responsible human beings protecting our human sexuality! Women are not the only victims of porn, young men are as well, in fact, all of our young people are!
Great article. I also liked the one on spirituality linked at the bottom. Makes perfect sense and explains why we have deeper connections when we aren't in the selfish mode that porn teaches us to be in.
A post of the article that R88 refers to, it is very good! http://www.elephantjournal.com/2011...ion-the-spiritual-story-no-one-wants-to-tell/
