  1. Just signed up. Have felt anxious and slightly down for much of my adult life. I viewed PMO as my momentary escape from my suffering. Recently read YBOP and now am considering the likelihood that PMO may actually be the CAUSE of my suffering, or at least a contributor. A little overwhelmed by all the reading and resources here, but will begin to work through it.

A question to start with....Masturbation and Porn are very closely tied for me. I do not know if I can possibly abstain from both. But when I have tried to abstain just from porn, allowing masturbation, it didn't work. Once aroused, I just no longer cared to resist the desire to view images and so lost my abstainence around porn.

Is there a way to begin to separate the two? Or must I just let go of both at once?

I'm pretty discouraged right now and have only a few hours of abstinence. Supportive comments appreciated.

  3. Myprocess1951 good for you to have started! I would say stop both.

  4. Thanks, James. I'm inclined to agree.
Say, a "Day Counter" was mentioned elsewhere as if it is some kind of app. Do you know where I can find that?

  5. Hi Myprocess1951 your counter is already showing so I presume you managed?

  6. Yes, I figured it out. Thanks.

The "Getting Started Guide" does not display or download properly. Do you know how to notify Admin about that?

  7. Welcome @myprocess1951 ! We’re glad you’re here. It can be really difficult overcoming both porn and masturbation but you can start beating this addiction. You can fight and win. People are succeeding here on NoFap. I know you can do it too!

This is my experience too. I can’t just condone masturbation, it always leads me down the rabbit hole to worse things.

I think you can and should quit both. It will be hard to do. There will probably be many tries involved. You will have to learn from each failure and try again. And you have to do it over and over and over again without getting discouraged to the point of quitting. But I promise that if you are determined enough and are willing to stick it out, you will see progress and it will be very exciting. :)

How long have you been able to go without PMO in the past? You should try to set attainable goals. If the most you’ve ever gone is one day, try to go two days.

I completely understand how you feel. It can be pretty depressing and that feeling of hopelessness can cause us to want to escape again through PMO. It’s a vicious cycle. Try not to despair. Your future is bright. You’re taking a very important step today.

One thing that helps me is journaling. I invite you to visit the “logs” section and start a journal (thread). It’s really a good way to sort out your thoughts and it also allows others to follow your progress and to offer advice and encouragement.

    Take care and good luck!

  8. I once went 5 months without, but fell back completely. Recently, I've had 2 stints of 10 days each. But I've been trying to let go of this for 30 years.
