Hello! I just though I would write up my method of blocking porn as I am bored on a weekend and this has helped me to my current record of 9 days no PMO, 7 days no MO

I think I have finally figured out how make it impossible to bypass my internet filter, though it has been very difficult in committing to this. For one, my career involves computers. This makes me in the "above average knowledge" of how to bypass a filter. I am currently away from home on business trip (still a few weeks to go). My wife knows I am struggling with porn and she is the key to my success.

my goals are NO PMO, no MO, no edging, no viewing porn (purposely), no viewing material for the sole purpose of exciting my dick.

This is the ONLY thing that has worked for me so far. I use K9 filtering software. I've been bypassing it in numerous ways this past year, thus never reaching double digits for No PMO.

1: install software. Use wife's email address and change her password to random characters that my wife has written on the computer at home. (Something I cant remember.. mix in capital letters and symbols). Also use a different password for K9 admin.

2: On a day where I am VERY motivated for my goals (being motivated while configuring IS IMPORTANT if goals are strict) I upgraded to win7 professional (from home edition).

I created an administrator user (again, that I cant remember the password, my wife has it). Then I made my user a regular user (also in network operators group so I can change my IP address as i sometimes have LAN parties over here. Did I mention I like games, and computers are my life?)

This was a hard step as now, without admin rights, I cant add or remove software, or almost modify anything. (it also made it so I cant disable K9..)

3: K9 settings: force safe search, block image and video streaming sites, block P2P (torrents), filter HTTPS traffic.. lingerie stores even.. all that is blocked

4: modify hosts file. I found I could bypass the filter and go to some HTTPS websites rather than standard HTTP (since then this has been fixed on a new K9 release). to block a specific website you can add line in hosts file:

    127.0.0.1 www3.oovoo.com

(this one blocks the annoying ads in ooVoo. change the website to anything you want blocked)

you wont be able to just undo it since you need admin rights to change this file.

5: setup bookmark for "Block Site in K9" that you can use to block a website you come across without needing the K9 password. If i stumble on a website that is not blocked i just click this bookmark.

6: also i use add blocker plus for Firefox to get rid of popup ads and stuff. seems to help

    I think that's it.

Every time I ask my wife for the password to do some maintenance or add new software or whatever, it is sooooo difficult to not watch porn or to just keep everything unlocked or keep the passwords! make sure you do this on a day that you are not likely to watch porn. But so far so good for me! I beat my record this way.

(open DNS is not an option for me as i dont have physical access to router in my hotel and I need to be able to change my IP settings whenever i want. I havent played with it but it seems like it could be simpler to do if you can put it on your router (and not know the password), so as to also block porn on wireless devices. though.. I already think of ways to bypass it)

    That is genious.

  3. What I did is created a yahoo email account with a username and password I could never remember
I got a K9 licence with this email
Then blocked yahoo so I couldnt even try to get access to the email account K9 is registered with.

Blocked all chat websites, porn and nudity.

However you can request an email account change for K9 but I have been good so far and havent done that yet

My issue is having an Iphone, I can just use that to look at porn :|

Oh well... been doing good the last few days!

I did the same thing a few days ago, but since I can't tell anyone about my addiction, I locked it with a password of random letters, so no matter how hard I try, I won't be able to access hardcore porn on my computer.

@ Dreams. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you infinity. You have given us information that helps, that all can use to fight this problem, and you are showing there is a method to overcoming it. Everyone reading this needs to know they have to put obstacles between themselves and the problem, make it difficult to access, and if you can, make it impossible to access. The purpose of the exercise is to lower your dopamine levels back to preporn levels. If you can do that then quitting is a piece of cake. And who doesn't like cake?

    Peace.

Do you have to do maintenance and install new software on the computer? If so, could your wife do it? I don't think it's a good idea for you to be able to have the password for these purposes, and if you have to use it frequently enough, you may find yourself memorizing it even if it is long or complex.

Would be better, but maybe not feasible, to e-mail the password to someone outside of your house so there is no way you could physically find it, and then destroy the e-mail.

  8. I personally K9 and Cold Turkey everything and throw out the password. It's pretty successful so far. The few relapses I've had the past few days are the result of my phone (which has internet too). But I've blocked my phone too. Everything in my room is safeguarded. I even made two accounts to log on to my laptop - one Administrator (which controls system restore) and one normal (which I use). I've also eliminated ANY and ALL search engines. And thanks to Cold Turkey I'm constantly adding any salacious material to the block list.

I know web filters can have their place in a balanced approach to NoFap, but just make sure you are not concentrating SO MUCH on locking yourself out of P with the filters, that you forget to work on the most important part of the strategy: your inside self.

That's precisely what happened to me. You can find the account of my dealings with web filters here: LINK

I am currently away from home on business, so yes I have to do my maintenance. Gets really hard to lock up the laptop myself after having the passwords though. Once this week I had the password, and did not properly delete one of my password (by accident) and it took a ton of dedication to throw it out without a relapse..

I do not want to destroy the password, in case something is not set correctly. If I find just one workaround, I am done for forever, lol. But I do not have physical access to the password until I get back home.

I totally agree!! Internet filtering has its disadvantages. If I don't work on my inside self, the first PC I will find that is totally open I will relapse.

I do find it much easier to work on myself now that I've been porn free for around 11 days, though. At least I'm hoping it helps. Still need to do the 'real' test when I am back home..

I've required a lot of relapses to figure out how to block myself from porn completely, believe me! Anything I can do to help?

to stop yourself requesting temporary passwords for k9, use your wife's email address when you register (or change it to that if you've already registered). That way if you're tempted to get a new password she'll know about it... would stop me trying anyway!

you can block safari and downloading apps through the general settings in your Iphone, that's how I got it off my phone.

    Hey NotSoAverageJoe

There's a way to block unwanted material on the iPhone all you have to do is go into Settings > General > Restrictions.

Make sure that you have someone you can trust enter the password and keep it somewhere safe (away from you).

Next thing you gotta do is configure the restrictions so that websites are limited to safe content and everything else will be blocked. It may block this forum because it understand this is adult content, but you can add it to the "Allow List" (white list).

    You're all set!

    Note:

Resetting the restrictions password will require reconfiguration because everything goes back to default and everything is allowed.

I did this too... except there is a very easy way to get past all of it. I pray you never figure it out.

And here is what will happen to you soon..

    Matt 12:36
"But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment (to Jesus) for every empty word they have spoken."

As someone who studies the scriptures I'm not even sure what you're getting at. It's not your place to make judgments. Perhaps my intent was hard to understand, so I'll forgive your bizarre use of scripture. Can you imagine how much I wish to be the OP where K9 was still full proof? I am warning the OP (original poster) not to let his guard down because he's got filters installed. Because there is a way past it. I get the impression that you'd like me to spell out how to bypass k9 for you. Would that help? Please man. I've seen your posts and from what I've seen all you seem interested in is condemning people with scripture. Matt 7: 1 "Judge not, that ye be not judged." This is a secular support group and I'd appreciate some heart to heart support and not some scrupulous, out-of-context, regurgitation of scripture please.
