    Hi Fapstronauts

I'm currently sober from porn since several months and from masturbation since few days, and one of the consequences of years of porn binge watching is that I feel I have some brain damage somehow, for instance I don't have much memory and forgot a lot, understanding complex stuff in work is hard, focus issues too.

Except meditation, what can I do to have a sharper mind ?
I'm planning to do some math problems, python/computer programming, and also train my memory to learn stuff by heart.

    What's your take guys ?
What do you do for a sharper and smarter mind ?

I read lots of stuff for body training but less for mind trainning.

    Thanks for your help.

You could also try anything that includes solving puzzles: crosswords, sudoku, riddles, strategy board games, like chess, shogi, and the like.
Also, maybe following plots that contain mystery, but offer clues, like detective stories?

Learning any new skill will create new neuronal paths so it will be like a workout for your brain. If you have a decent computer try learning to use fl studio, make some electronic music, grab an instrument and learn some songs, write, anything that requires you to focus will help really. Also READING is know for cultivating your brain, and it is not for nothing. When you read, even if it is fiction, your braing is interpreting the symbols into images, using your visual cortex to represent the scenaries you are reading through, so reading consistently is a major yes. Also I've heard doing anything you can with your disabled hand will create new neuronal pathways, so if you are right, start brushing your teeths with your left hand!

I can introduce to you a popular Buddhist way to make your mind sharper:

You should learn about the Law of Cause and Effects, Five Precepts, Ten Paths of Virtous Karma and so on. Then share to people who have the same problem with mind. That's the point!

If you teach others about The law of Cause and Effect, make them believe and change their habit to become virtuous people, you will gain many benefits, fortune, blessing and of course, a sharp mind, wisdom. Or you can try other ways, such as donating money to distribute Buddhist sutras, books etc (this way is also really popular in Vietnam, many corp CEOs usually do this).

The law of karma (also known as "cause and effect") is the very basis law of the world. The Buddha reveal it to people and disciples.

For a general view of The law of cause and effect, there is a quite popular course (book) in Vietnam. Here it is (in form of a vocal book on youtube).

The Fairness of Karma - Ven. Thich Chan Quang:

But the fundamental way is a 3-stages procedure:
    - Keeping Buddhist precepts
    - Exercise meditation and samadhi
    - Wisdom comes after

    Dhammapada Verse 282
    Potthilatthera Vatthu

    Verse 282:
    Indeed, wisdom is born of meditation;
    without meditation wisdom is lost.
Knowing this twofold path of gain and loss of wisdom,
one should conduct oneself so that wisdom may increase.

I understood your question. And that is my solution. I know it is strange to you. But it worked in Vietnam and other countries.
I suggest you read the book "Diamond Cutter" of Geshe Michael Roach. In the end of the book, there is a Chinese man Jin Huang. He is CEO of Aiven office stuff. He confirmed that after sharing knowledge about The law of Cause and Effect, his mind became sharper, clear, more systematic.

You can even see the website of Aiven company.

  8. You can try to improve your memory.
You can start off by trying to memorise a deck of cards, you can google how to do it.

I am no expert here but I think to become sharp/good at anything, as a matter of fact, you need to work really hard on it and constantly learn, make mistakes and re-invent a better yourself, and there are no shortcuts. It might take a month, 6 months or a year but it will happen! If you are in the NoFap forum you already know that things are achieved only by a consistent and industrious effort and there are no shortcuts. I would suggest just work laser-focused on whatever you want to be sharper consistently (a few hours every day) by not relapsing into any addictions, measure the results in regular intervals and you'll definitely see the improvement. The brain is also like a muscle that needs to be intensely trained to get what you called "sharper". The above-mentioned things like "Diamond cutter", online riddles will definitely help in this journey by keeping you motivated but ultimately you ought to hit the exact thing that you really want to be sharp at and there is no way around. I hope it helps.

    Hey!
I remember the day when I couldn’t do simple 3x3 multiplication while solving physics questions. I got pissed. I vowed to never fap again.
I did 82 days, then I got better at acads.
I failed, but got up and did 142 days. I improved.
And now I’m here,to improve again.
You can do math, and do the logical questions if possible. Also develop a growth mindset. If you don’t know something, this is a good time to learn. Take it slow, most importantly. You’ll surely get results by the end of a month

Scans of Monks' Brains Show Meditation Alters Structure, Functioning -- SCIENCE JOURNAL By SHARON BEGLEY - November 5, 2004
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB109959818932165108

"Of all the concepts in modern neuroscience, it is neuroplasticity that has the greatest potential for meaningful interaction with Buddhism," says neuroscientist Richard Davidson of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The Dalai Lama agreed, and he encouraged monks to donate (temporarily) their brains to science.

The result was the scans that Prof. Davidson projected in Dharamsala. They compared brain activity in volunteers who were novice meditators to that of Buddhist monks who had spent more than 10,000 hours in meditation. The task was to practice "compassion" meditation, generating a feeling of loving kindness toward all beings.

"We tried to generate a mental state in which compassion permeates the whole mind with no other thoughts," says Matthieu Ricard, a Buddhist monk at Shechen Monastery in Katmandu, Nepal, who holds a Ph.D. in genetics.

In a striking difference between novices and monks, the latter showed a dramatic increase in high-frequency brain activity called gamma waves during compassion meditation. Thought to be the signature of neuronal activity that knits together far-flung brain circuits, gamma waves underlie higher mental activity such as consciousness. The novice meditators "showed a slight increase in gamma activity, but most monks showed extremely large increases of a sort that has never been reported before in the neuroscience literature," says Prof. Davidson, suggesting that mental training can bring the brain to a greater level of consciousness.

i have similar issues and nofap has significantly helped me in resolving them but to fix them 100% i probably need to reach atleast 4 to 6 months mark though i have much higher expectation from myself so to say i want to remain celibate and PMO free for the rest of my life, it's challenging and extremely difficult but not impossible.

The reason why i don't want to get married is i fear betrayal and cheating and it's really hard to find a girl who never a BF and is potentially a virgin

Here's some of the activities I'm developping to replace PMO :

    - playing chess on line : https://lichess.org/
    - learning a new skill, python programming through google class : https://developers.google.com/edu/python
    - doing math, which is an excellent focus and problem solving activity, ther are many videos out there, but I find it interisting to work it through a book of Calculus, just take one chapter and try to work it out : https://arslanhelpyoucom.files.word...ard-anton-iril-bivens-stephen-davis-ebook.pdf
    - crack puzzles, every day a new problem if you sign into there mailing list : https://brilliant.org/

If somebody can add a site/app/whatever to help on :
    - physical trainning/exercices
    - memory training
    - meditation exercices

Thanks to another fapstronaut has shared to me these 2 videos:

They gave me motivation to do meditation.

  15. I recommend you to know how your mind works first because we all have different skillsets that we are inborn with...ever heard of MBTI? I assume you might have heard about it...if not, then MBTI will be a great start to understand yourself better..You will learn about cognitive functions..I highly recommend you to watch C.S JOSEPH on youtube about MBTI..he explains how cognitive functions works very well in great depth.
