Really poor sleep after quitting?

    I'm 40, I smoked weed almost daily for about 5 years, and had compulsive porn and escort behaviors for about 10 years.

    I recently quit (with help from attending 12-step sex-addict meetings) and I have now been completely sober for 32 days, and I'm sleeping like shit.

    My sleep is shallow, I frequently wake up and stay awake for an hour or more. I am tired and sluggish during the day. (My sleep hygiene is excellent - dark, quiet room, no noise, lights off hours before bed etc.) I used to sleep well, all through the night, in my early 30s.

    Did anyone else experience really poor sleep for some time after quitting? I understand there's a link between dopamine and porn use, and between melatonin and weed, I'm thinking something got worn out and needs to rest up. Wondering how long this might last?

    Same here , poor sleep though I'm tired ... Had only 2 hours of sleep lastnight

    I find this happens to me sometimes, usually because all the energy is in my head. I find if I use the energy for exercise earlier in the day (at least 4-5 hours before sleep) I usually sleep better. If that doesn't help, trying using meletonin or other natural sleep remedies.

    When you finally do get asleep, do you have any weird dreams?
    Aside from that, I've just recently started becoming incredibly restless as well...
    Could this be some sort of withdrawal symptom?

    your lack of sleep or quality is a result of abstaining from masturbation or a hormonal imbalance. you could be suffering form oxidative stress which lowers energy levels and attacks the mitochondria(cells that convert calories and oxygen into energy).i would suggest daily exercise, a diet rich in omega 3 fats, B3, B2, niacin and riboflavin respectively, magnesium, along with other nutrients. specifically look into the the ultra mind solution, there is a website and a book. i would also search for mitochondrial nutrients.

    Smoking weed (other drugs too, to bigger degree) as well as fapping do the same pretty much to your health. In the same topic You will find clues how to replenish depleted energy.
    Weed an fapping also flood your brain with many different hormones which calm the brain so you can fall asleep. Now your brain is stripped of it so take time to get out of addiction. You may use some mild sleep-tonic herbs like Ashwagandha, valerian root or melissa to get better sleep. Do not drink coffee at all and do not eat 3 hours before sleeping.

    I started nofap 2 weeks ago, its only really been the last few days since I've had trouble sleeping, I lay there and I just don't fall to sleep, I exercise as well, I'm pretty sure it will subside soon.

    I'm sleeping more or less as before, but I'm having weird dreams too. Very, very vivid and real. I've woken up a few times in a sweat. I usually go back to sleep, and for the most part I don't remember the dreams - just that they are intense - and weird.

    Thanks for the replies, some great suggestions and reading.

    I'm not having any strange dreams, actually having some pretty cool dreams. I dreamed (dreamt?) that I was in a pod of killer whales the other night, and I looked around at the others and could see the light streaming in from the surface of the ocean, we all swam around and went over into a cave and nuzzled up against each other and had a nap, and then I woke up.

    I'm looking at the ultramind book and products, specifically the supplements and vitamins. My diet is excellent right now, lots of greens and healthy protein, etc.

    Very interested in the concept of depleted jing energy, thanks for the reply digiter. if you had to chose one product/method to help replenish or restore, what would it be?
    Whether it's proven scientifically or not, I really feel sluggish after ejaculating these days, something is going on with my system. I'm worn out. I'm not going to buy a bunch of herbs over the internet, but I could try one bottle of something out. I'm downloading a video on Qi Gong..

    Hah, here I am back in the same place. Year after year, "this will be the time!" I say.

    Well, let's try it again. :) I had some success last winter, about five weeks clean at one point. And then I just forgot how harmful it was, said "ahh one more won't hurt" and here I am at 40
