Using Gamification to fight my PMO addiction

    Hey All, this I adapted from my daily Journal. Thought would be good to share it here for all those self improvement.

    Day 1

    Went really well today. Won this battle, but there is still the war. So must keep going.
    I expect urges to come back in about 3-4 days, so I should be extra prepared around that time.
    I also reflected about my last time I did 30+ days of no pm, and there was one crucial thing I did that helped. I used gamification, tracking my daily progress and awarding myself points. More on it bellow.

    I noticed my main reason for relapsing each of the times has been the following:
    1. Me getting curious about smth somewhat tangentially erotic (various reasons, talking to a girl, seeing a picture, etc). I never was like fuck Im horny let me open some p website. But more like let me see just 1 picture.
    2. Googling this up, and getting a bit horny.
    3. Looking for some related material, like pictures, stories that are more borderline.
    4. Then seeing some nude pictures.
    5. Then jumping in some of the porn websites/blogs linked to the pictures.
    6. Going down the rabbit hole.
    Peeking has been my main problem. Once I peek at it, my brain gets hit with a shit ton of dopamine and I can't be rational anymore. I know its bad but at that point I can't stop anymore. And even if I stop it that feeling down there hunts me down for the rest of the day, and cant focus.

    So I must avoid peeking at all cost. So I did that following

    Gamification system:


    Created an excel sheet, with a bunch of easy tick marks for each day. Like a ToDo list.

    Each row is a day, and there are different columns like:
    • did i make my bed?
    • did i brush my teeth?
    • did i drink enough water?
    • did i stay clean of pmo for the day?
    • did i avoid peeking at porn(i.e. not googling anything erotic)?
    • did i post my daily update on nf? and
    • did i fill out the tick table for the day?

    About 10 easy questions that i fill out for 2mins every morning and evening.
    For each tick i get awarded several points based on completion. The goal is to get max points for the day. I also track an average in each column for past 7 days, past 30 days, to keep track of my progress in each section.

    This is the strategy I used the first time I passed 30 days, and I got back to it.
    I found adding gamification to this process, like awarding myself points for staying on track keeps me extra motivated. Plus engaging this with some of the daily habits I already do like making my bed/drinking water keeps me more committed to reporting my progress in the excel sheet.

    Plus even if I fail and I have to fill the table with a bunch of 0s, I still get 1 point for filling the table. So this keeps me committed even through the bed times.

    Now I fill this page every morning, and I awarded myself 1 point for not googling anything erotic. Now through the day I know, that if I google smth erotic I have to first go to the Daily ToDo table, and remove that 1 point in the not googling shit column. So this makes me wanna stay away from googling anything borderline, and is an extra deterrent for staying away from porn.

    Usually with a game, there are prizes/rewards that one can obtain with the points. Do you have anything like that set up or maybe.. trying to get a new highscore for each month. I'm not sure..but I do like this idea.. I am practicing something similar.
