We Don’t Have To Listen To All Our Thoughts

I was offered this sage advice recently not even related to PM.

We have lots of thoughts, but we don’t have to listen to all of them. We can choose what we want to listen to and what we want to let pass.

We are not our thoughts. We are so much more. So we don’t have to let them define us.

Had some challenging thoughts earlier trying to down play my problem with PM and justify not needing to reboot. I gave space for them then Let them pass through instead of identifying with them and I made it through those tough moments.

No judgment for those thoughts. No shame. No guilt. Still lots of love and compassion for myself.
Hope this is helpful to others out there.

Funny enough I've been writing in a stream of consciousness style in the morning and I think that's helped focus in a way. For one thing I'm not fully awake yet, but even though I'm free to write whatever that comes to mind I guess I automatically want to focus a bit and get something down before my 15 minutes is out, something relevant and meaningful so I've been remembering things I can do, like certain tools and techniques that might be helpful. I suppose there's also the aspect of where you get it down then you're kind of getting it out and you don't have to think that thought, and the ones that are worthwhile are there and I can refer back to what I wrote and follow up.

I do journal writing in stream of consciousness too. I think you're right, at least for me writing is a way of both organizing and processing thoughts as well as getting them out of your head so you can see and evaluate them in a different way.
I used to get frustrated that I was always journaling about the same problems, but then my therapist offered that same idea. it is just a way of getting the thoughts out of your head. It doesn't mean you're not evolving.
