Hello, NoFap community. Very rare lurker here (as in I lurk in this site very rarely), first account here. However, I'm not interested in the forum scene, so once I get some decent advice, this account will be deleted. Some backstory, though I will provide a TLDR at the end for those who just want to get to the crux of the issue. I don't know why I'm writing this out, other than the hope that it would help. Somehow.

I've been into masturbating since I was 5 (prone) and porn since I was 13 about 1-3 times a day. I began trying to give it up in early 2017 when I was told by my father that masturbating often was unhealthy. We were talking about sexual health at the time. For a while, my limit was usually about 3 weeks until I'd give in and then I started making bigger numbers. A month became easy. Eventually, I set a personal record of over 2 months. However, since September of 2019, I've been struggling to reach even a month. By 2020, 2-3 weeks was a challenge once more. And I have no idea why.

I don't remember how I managed my best streaks before and with everybody staying home most of the time, I don't have many places to go to help forget about urges. Every time I give in, I always promise myself to last a month only to give in once more before that time could arrive. I don't know how others manage to maintain 80+, 90+, 100+ streaks. I've thought about trying to weed it out instead since clearly, cold turkey is either not working for me or the way I'm doing it isn't working. However, I'm not sure if it would help.

It feels like my willpower has been shot to hell. Used up, dried out since it was primarily the only thing I was relying on for these past few years. I feel like I need a mental reboot before I can start my NoFap reboot. Question is, how do I do that?

TLDR: The usual you may see here, I guess. I'm struggling to see big streaks and I'd like to know how others do it.

I should point out some things:

    • I don't use social media.
    • I used to peek, but I conquered that.
    • I have 3+ hobbies that I am going to commit to.
    • I would take cold showers, but in the summer, the pipes of my house get so warm that the cold setting is no different from warm.
    • I do have an edging/fantasizing problem that hits in the morning and I'm currently dealing with it.
    • I am single, so I can't rely on a woman to relieve my sexual urges for porn nor do I think it's an optimal way to abstain.
    • I do have blockers, but they might as well not be there since it is so easy to get around them. Besides, I've learned that blockers are not a save-all, be-all. If you want to see porn, you will see it.
    • I don't have anyone I am comfortable talking to about this in my personal life.

  3. The only good way to become free from any addiction is to find out these answers and doing these solutions.
    • Why are you using whatever you are addicted to?
    • What can you use instead to fulfill your needs (which you are compensating with your addiction for)?
    • How is your daily productivity?
    • How can you make better use of your time?
    • Are you making new good habits to replace your bad habits, or are you simply hoping for things to go right without properly planning for them?
    • What changes are more important and urgent in your life? And are you willing to step out of your comfort zone to make those changes asap?
    • What do you really think your self worth is?
Most of the time people do not recover successfully because they make mistakes in above things.

(It's just my viewpoint, so take it for what it's worth)

Does social media really pays a hard part in this?

Social media will make you relapse in the long run as they can trigger you without even your will. Delete all social media and keep chat to communicate with friends. @sam30

From whatever I can perceive from your story,

I feel you've to make some self reflection and ask yourself

    why you indulge in porn?
    is it serving you?
what do you intend to do about it?

If you want to really quit this addiction forever, the futility of indulging in porn must be realized thoroughly. Realize the utter uselessness and negativity of indulging in porn.

If this strategy is implemented, you will use porn less and less until finally you are so aware of the worthlessness of porn that, the tendency to access crap drops by itself.

And another important thing is, it will be more helpful to drop the strategy of giving undue importance to days, for example, let's say you make it clean 3 weeks and you are all gaga about it. There is a good chance that it makes you feel overconfident and maybe even tempted as well. only to slip up later and feel depression. Instead, take EVERY DAY AS DAY ONE and don't be overconfident about the number of days you've made clean. Count the numbers but take each day as day one.

Hope this helps. Good Luck on your journey!
