I've been quitting several different substances for self improvemt

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by Deleted Account, Sep 4, 2020.

  1. As well as working on rebooting, I quit smoking weed, vaping/nicotine gum, coffee, and I have been trying to limit my time on video games/entertainment. I am also trying to get off my antidepressant medication, as I don't like the side effects. I have lost too many hours of my life spent wasting away watching youtube or doing something else unproductive. I live at home and I don't have a job, so its easy to fall into a pitfall of laziness. So I decided that I needed to quit all these substances to start improving things. Quitting weed was simple. The nicotine addiction sucked, but once I lowered my levels enough I was able to get off. Coffee sucked even harder. I have been a lifelong coffee/caffeine drinker since middle school, and it hasn't helped that my family all likes to drink it. But once I got off I felt a little more in control. I have deactivated Youtube on my phone(can't delete on android), but sometimes I reactivate it because of habit. I have also been making an effort to leave the house more to get away from all my distractions, and this has helped. Any advice on limiting screen time?

Yeah, delete all the apps you don't really need such as games or social media. If you don't need your phone then leave it at home, or if you are at home and it is distracting you leave it in another room. Another thing I've always done is if there is an app I am using a lot I will move the app to the different spot. You are so used to opening the app you don't even have to think about where it is located. When you move it it will take you a second or two to find it, usually in this second you realise you don't actually need to check the app.

  3. I have youtube actually disabled on my phone but my compulsion is so strong I will re enable it to watch videos. I think your right about deleting unnecessary time wasters.

  4. You need to just stop using internet. I had a problem browsing websites that weren't good for the nofap lifestyle. I mean websites were the users are the typical don't care porn users porn meme types. Once I cut these websites out it got easier to abstain. I only use nofap and a couple of educational websites now and I feel it is so much better.

I spend a lot of time on nofap now but it's worth it to quit pmo.

  5. I would cut out internet completely but I have online classes that I am taking, and Im a CS major lol so its not quite as easy as "just stop using the internet". Ive considered going into a different major but honestly I don't think that would solve my problems.

  6. I have a CS degree and work on a computer all the time. I didn't mean completely cut out internet. Just don't use it for things you don't need like social media or other sites that might lead to temptation. I only use it for nofap and a few educational websites and that's it.
