Are erotic books are as bad as porn videos?

I think that we’ve all watched the YouTube video “the great porn experiment”:

In that video he talked about how different high speed internet porn is from anything else humanity had in the past.

So my question is, what do you guys think about written erotica / dirty stories.
I’m kind of a geek and all of my life I was both addicted to videos, but I’ve also read a lot of different dirty books. And now when I’m trying to quit I don’t know whether to view them as like a nicotin patch that would help me quit the really bad stuff or are they harmful just as much as videos?

On the one hand, it is porn. But it is mostly imagination and I know that no life is being destroyed by that industry.

    What do you think?

It's no where near as bad as porn or artificial sexual stimulation on high speed internet or a high novelty platform. High speed internet is the ultimate high novelty platform.

It's just any form of artificial sexual stimulation isn't recommend to anyone in recovery, particularly anyone recovering from porn induced sexual dysfunctions. Because any form of artificial sexual stimulation could be activating those porn pathways in your brain that you are trying to heal from. But I doubt erotic books would cause much or any issues to anyone who doesn't have porn induced brain changes or porn induced sexual dysfunctions.

We full well know that there was little issues before high speed internet. That pretty much tells us everything. Arousing content on a high novelty platform, a platform where it is never ending. This is actually what caused the problems we see today. Not erotic books.

Anything that triggers you is not good. I'm finding something that may sound innocent enough even though this does not completely, is really our mind trying to trick us again and then you're back in the loop. Remember since above state that high speed internet is the norm, that this can lead you there.

The fact that you had doubt about it being porn says a lot about it doesn't it? In my opinion anything that stimulates sexual behavior is porn let that be scripts, pictures, audio or video or in any other form. Hope you find it helpful. Have a great day :)

  7. In order to get the benefits from abstinence,

you have to avoid the orgasm.

Otherwise the whole thing is a waste of time.

If written porn, pictures or other bad habits put you at

    risk of masturbation,

    ditch them.

If you are using it as porn, it's porn. You know what I mean.

Personally my addiction is purely visual, so I don't have to be careful about what I read. I don't seek out erotic books per se but if a novel has a bit of description of sex in it, I know it won't turn me on, so I just read on, whatever. Sex scenes in movies are a different matter, and I have to be quite careful what I start watching.

    Hi everyone,

I just want to thank all of you for replaying. You really helped me understand and accept that for a full recovery I must also distance myself from this stuff as wall.

    Thank you

  10. Switching from typical internet porn to erotic books is definitely an upgrade (assuming the erotic books aren't fetish material), but it's best to avoid porn all together. If you really can't/don't want to cold turkey it, then maybe switch to erotic books and then keep upgrading from there (or stay there, do what ever you want it's your life).

  11. I guess my motto is if it leads to porn or you might fap to then it is not good for you. I think it is slippery slope if you let yourself read erotic books which might make you aroused and you may potentially either fap or watch porn and fap. I think it is better to not test yourself in that sense.
