How to handle restaurants and food delivery after relapse

  1. Hi guys.
    I'm trying a new streak and there is one particular struggle I've fought against the past two weeks. I have been on a very particular food program, eating the same thing everyday - two meals, lunch and diner. And it works perfectly, I feel no urge. But whenever I go to food places or order, mostly pizza or asian food in the evening, big urges come before sleep and it always leads to a relapse.

    Should I stop going out or ordering, or is there a way - a ritual, a pattern, food to avoid - to still go to restaurants and feel ok just like after the usual healthy food I cook?

    Seems like a behaviour pattern. Doing A, makes you think of B that leads to C, the relapse. The first step to overcoming is becoming aware of your own self.

    Yeah it seems unlikely that a specific food is triggering the relapse by nature of being what it is. It's more than likely some association you've created. Perhaps you usually ate out whenever you used pornography as a sort of ritual.

    For example, my ritual used to be:
    1. Smoke weed
    2. Fap
    3. Order delivery
    4. Watch a movie
    5. Smoke more weed
    6. Fap again
    I developed associations between all of these things. If I fapped I found that I wanted delivery, if I got delivery I wanted to fap. I focused on removing PMO and over time the associations began to weaken to the point that I can have delivery now and never get an urge.

    Eating healthy as often as possible is always something we should aspire too, but no single food can have a relation to relapse. Unless there is a food at these places that is an aphrodisiac for you, but I would think this is less of a possibility than what I explained above. Even if it was the case, the associations I explained would have a greater effect.

  5. Thanks a lot. It is very interesting. It seems to be more of an association, a habit really that I finally have to kill ; than doing anything wrong by going to the restaurant.

    I will meditate on that and work on it.

    It could be the MSG and sugar (a lot of Asian food is full of sugar) in the restaurant food triggering a rise in dopamine. Once your brain gets a taste of that dopamine, it wants even more. Your brain remembers that porn is a surefire way of getting an immediate and easy dopamine spike, so it hits you with PMO urges.

    I'm not sure that this is exactly what's happening to you, but it seems like a logical explanation. I've found that my urge to PMO actually decreases when I avoid other things that trigger dopamine spikes (alcohol, weed, nicotine, caffeine, sugar).

    Its only been two weeks. Even a fully dressed woman from the right angle might trigger a relapse during these early days.

    The important part of the puzzle isn't your diet, but what you are doing at night time. Are you closing your bedroom door, turning off the lights and opening a private browser on your phone/computer?

    What exactly is the relapse? Is it an MO + fantasy?

    Don't blame your food for your relapse. That's a never ending cycle. Next you will blame your boxer briefs, your T-shirt or your route to work/class.

    There is only one cause. You being alone/bored and indulging in lecherous fantasies. This is the context you need to change.

    I recommend making changes to your environment to create a more positive atmosphere. As well as taking
    measures to reduce screentime and regulate internet usage.

    You will always have urges coming from different directions. This week it is pizza and Asian food. Next time it may be something else.

    You need objective preventative measures for what to do when the urges come. Because you cannot rely on 100% eliminating urges altogether unless you castrate yourself.
