Hey guys this film was really powerful for me. I first saw it a year or so ago and since then have watched it multiple times. I like the structure of the plot and the themes it tackles. Would highly recommend anyone who has not seen it yet to go and get it out (or any newbies looking for some persuasion to change). Apologies in advance if this topic has come up before.
I've actually heard a lot about it and know the basic plot but I've tried to avoid watching based on potential NSFW parts. Or maybe I'm just terrified to watch it because it hits to close to home, and I wasn't ever confident enough to bag the classy Scarlett Johannson-type girlfriend that Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character did in the movie.
hahaha! Agreed. There are possibly some potential triggers in there. But I think the overall meanings that come out of it are positive. And the lengths some advertisers go to to sell us burgers! "Some like it hot"...
I have seen the movie a few times.I think its a good movie but they are a lot of triggers on there which may trigger some people. Also I can identify with Don Jon with his pornography addiction and being more connected to porn than with a real woman.I think the message of the movie was that as men we should strive to connect and bond with real women, instead of fapping to a screen.
Thanks for Sharing is a better movie about porn/ sex addictions in my opinion. There are also significantly less triggers ion Thanks for Sharing than there are in Don Jon.
Saw it & liked it. Honestly the sex scenes didn't really trigger me that much because a movie sex scene is way different than porn. Plus, you can always close your eyes if it's a bit too much.
It's actually no different. Watching either one still stimulates your dopamine receptors all the same. Watching movies, TV, YouTube, or video games with sexual content causes detrimental harm to your reboot. It doesn't matter if it triggers you or not, it still effects your brain all the same. But it is your guys' choice to watch said media. I do not support it in anyway so I will never watch or monetize oversexulized media I also wanted to mention that I never said it didn't have a good message. To me, that still doesn't change the fact that if you want to fix your dopamine receptors you should stay away from that stuff.
The triggers might be there but in a sense they have to be to develop context. What is most important to me about the film is his emerging realization that his porn consumption is a problem in his life i.e. he loses the love of his life owing to it. And I think that it just one element we can take on board. Also, the fact that somebody went to the trouble of making a film with this theme running through it indicates how it has become a contemporary issue society might want to reflect upon. But, if it might trigger some people then yeah stay away from it by all means.
I watched it in the theater next to my wife and 23 year old daughter. It was really uncomfortable. I felt like it was exposing all my secrets.
Saw this movie last year. Very brave of the filmmakers to touch this topic and bring it into the public eye. Though well intentioned I had issues with how easily the protagonist stopped his habit as soon as he found a new understanding partner. As we all know that's often not the case. So in my opinion they sort of trivialized the suffering of a porn addict. Also there are several P scenes featuring real porn stars. Also the bedroom scenes with Scarlett Johansson was very arousing. Again this is my opinion. (Always had the hots for her ) Definitely not recommended if you're rebooting.
I just recently watched it. It's a real feel good movie and I liked it. But careful, there's alot of naked women and softer parts of porn movies in that film.
