Been here about a week, and I noticed something kinda weird. Seems like there might be a lot of trolls on this site? I've seen people posting fake stories about porn, as well as big arguments about random crap! Is it always like this? I'm all for some lighthearted fun but idk, maybe some take it too far? I wonder why they do this? Sign of something wrong with them mentally perhaps? Am I overthinking this?
How do you tell the difference between genuine posting and trolling? Just like your post here isn't nofap-recovery specific, maybe others in recovery have time on their hands to broach different topics?
Not saying posts need to be just about NoFap, after all, that's why offtopic is here right? But when I read some threads, I cant help but think the person is trolling! Posting silly stuff or fake stories takes focus away from people who are being serious. You're right in saying I cant know for sure if someone is trolling or not, but idk, I've read some things on here in only the last few days that are obviously lies. I dont know how else to put it lol.
it's pretty hard to tell what's just a weird case and what's made up wich means you can post fake stories without any consequenses so the natural habitat of trolls basically
Good point. Maybe I'm being too harsh? I just find it weird that people would want to try and mess around on a site like this. Offtopic is one thing, the regular sections are another. Maybe I'm just naïve lol.
I think what lambofgod said is right, it's hard to know who is trolling, who is serious, and who is trying to have some fun, and who is trying to be harmful or derail. You're right about drama, but that's just human nature I'd say lol. Like rubbernecking a car crash.

I dont think trolling is that bad on this site. It seems like a lot of users here are extremely neurotic and apt to cause trouble at the slightest slights to them. Idk doe
Alright, so earlier today there was a thread about a guy who claimed he had successfully hypnotized himself into needing to use the bathroom when he saw a hot girl. That he had literally shit himself because of a hypnosis file. Now there's a tiny chance this is a real story, buuuuuuuuut, come on, it's not. It's obviously not. What the OP was claiming was almost impossible. Hypnosis doesnt work like that, and people in the thread I believe even said so. Listening to a random audio file cant do that, the stuff you see on pornhub isnt MKUltra lol. That's the kind of stuff I'm talking about, and it got me to thinking, how many users are being distracted by stuff like this? Like lambofgod even said, the nature of the site makes it a hotbed for potential trolls. What's stopping someone coming on here and causing a massive fuss with a fake story that draws people in? As far as I can tell, nothing. I'm not suggesting any ideas for how to fix the issue, cause I dont have any! But it did get me thinking.
Maybe so. I havent seen that many like that myself, but I havent been here long so idk. A lot of people seem to like arguing though lol!
As others have said, how do you tell the difference between a troll and someone making a joke? Or are all attempts at satire (or stuff similar) signs of trolling to you? Where is the line?
My theory on trolls is that they tried to make friends and to fit in but that they never got accepted and then they went to the other extreme and decided to just "destroy society" and hurt the ones that rejected them. They failed at being the hero and therefore put on the black hat and became a villain.
