About the "thing" that transforms a sissy loser into a winner

It took me getting suicidal to "hop onto" self-improvement. I had such a low self-esteem a couple of years ago that was reinforced by the porn I was watching. I had started developing HOCD, which completely shook the foundation of who I thought I was.

I think it's those "shook the foundation" moments, when you don't even know who you are anymore.

At work today I usually just clock out as fast as I can but I keep my head down when I'm passing through my coworkers. Especially girls. Today, for whatever reason, I was looking up and into at least 3 people's eyes, and one of them was this really beautiful girl who I have not started a conversation with unless it's work related. Not that it will ever happen I believe and that's ok, but I wondered as I was on the bus why I had done that. We have made eye contact before and it's been a bit intense at least in my part, but she looked away this time, and that's ok. As long as I just keep interactions respectful I should be fine, but I was fighting a boner during my bus ride. Just from eye contact. Sigh.

 

It sounds like you're really white knuckling this whole situation. The SA program teaches group members to submit, or surrender, those situations to God, or whoever your higher power is. We can pray for help in our time of need, we can pray for our spouse or significant other, and we can even pray for the trigger or temptation we're struggling with. There are many better ways to deal with things like that than to just push through and hope everything turns out okay.

I hope someday you have the confidence to know that there is much more to being a man than liking non-fluffy things.

Your kind of attitude makes people lose confidence in what they genuinely like and shy them into false personas. Which can drive them into porn.

Being manly means respecting that if you like fluffy kittens, you like fluffy kittens.

 

For me, the "thing" is realising that what I've been doing up until now hasn't been working.
Therefore, time to try something very very different.

 

I agree, being physically fit does help a huge amount with discipline. Glad you found what works for you Pitbull, but folks have gotta find the fitness thing they love. Being manly is about owning up to what we like and enjoy and going ahead and doing it. For me its cycling. Any strength work I do benefits that.

 

There is not an "it", it just eventually clicks in your head, is like an epiphany.
