Just curious if this has happened to anyone participating in nofap. So last night I fell asleep at about 2a.m. and woke up about a hour later with a really fast heart rate and gasping for air. Felt like my heart was bogged down and not beating correctly. Had a sense of panic because maybe i thought i was going to die? Or maybe it was just a symptom I couldn't control either way. I got up and felt really weak. Drank some water and i was okay after that. This is the second time this has happened in the past 2 weeks. I relapsed after both times thinking that had something to do with it.

  2. From experience, I know that sleeping disruptions and insomnia are common enough. And I've actually woken up in a similar way on a number of occasions. You're essentially waking up in a panic attack. At least that's my best nonprofessional guess as I'm not a doctor and I don't identify as one unlike Bill Gates. If you're concerned, it's best to seek help and go from there.

By the way, you claim to have relapsed after each of these occurrences. How long were the streaks of abstinence that you think may have caused this?

It sounds like a panic attack to me. I have had panic attacks but nothing to do with NoFap. I saw the doctor and she gave me a short course of valium and referred me for counselling which I didn't attend because by the time I got an appointment they had stopped. If they continue I would visit a doctor for advice because they are horrible when they happen

Dude, no matter if it has anything to do with NoFap or not, get it checked out by a doctor. You don't play around when your heart might not be okay. Take that serious.

I've already gotten my heart checked out. Not here for medical advice. Seeing if this happens to anyone else. This has also happened to me during cigarette withdrawals before during like the 3rd and 4th weeks

  6. Sounds like a severe panic attack. Considering the actual real rewiring we've done to our brains,.quiting PMO cold turkey (the only option btw) might have consequences like this

PMO recovery in some anecdotal instances has had some results similar to this, but it isn't the cause 99.5% of the time. If you can get a clean bill of health, you can more safely expect it to be one of the steeper prices of reboot especially if you've been addicted for some time. It sounds like a panic attack, given the information presented. But of course, keep in touch with a doctor / a psychiatrist just in case. (I know you aren't here for medical advice, and none of us are qualified to give it, but it's also dangerous to claim actual potential issues as PMO related. Food for thought.)

  8. I haven't had that but it could be anxiety.

One thing to watch out for – I'm not saying this is what's happening with you – but past trauma can come to the surface when we take away our coping mechanisms – like nofap. This was the case for me and it was always after the first few weeks that my anxiety went off the rails. So many of us turn to PMO when we're young as it's an escape. Take it easy and give yourself permission to feel anxious. If nofap was easy, nobody would relapse.

  9. You make this seem much rarer than it actually is. The OP provided little to no background on the case but even so, if he was highly addicted and practicing PMO and edging frequently, it would make sense that panic attacks would be part of his withdrawal symptoms. I read somewhere that quitting cold turkey without necessary external support for nervous modulation can create similar outcomes in sufferers. I guess that depends on how much damage has been done.

In either case, I too have unfortunately experienced similar occurrences and related it to PMO. And like the OP, I have been checked out.

This is pretty important to bring up too. A lot of what we avoided with PMO will eventually rear its head, often at the most unexpected moments with little to no triggers. This is common in many reboot reports, and I've personally experienced it to a startling degree. There's an explanation for it, somewhere, but it does happen.

On the brightside, you'll be able to drop weights that have been on your shoulders for a long time.
