Trying an ED service and they deny porn addiction?!

The service is helpful so far but I do not agree with their views on porn at all.

    They say:

    "It's not porn addiction
Most research that suggests you can be addicted to porn has no valid data. The studies that do are weak. Using porn a lot doesn't create the neural changes we see in drug addiction (Ley et al., 2014)."

"Porn doesn't desensitize you to sex
The opposite actually happens. The more porn men watch, the more sensitive they are to any kind of sexy visuals. Even the vanilla stuff (Prause & Pfaus, 2015)."

This feels woefully inaccurate. I agree porn doesn't insensitive you to sex at first, but after years of use – it starts to desensitize you to sex.

Other than that, most of what the service offers so far is good advice. I won't share the name as I don't want to get kicked off on here!

I’ve been here for years, seen hundreds of guys and heard dozens of stories in detail. True, the studies aren’t numerous or fabulously constructed. Wanna know why? They can’t find enough men who don’t use porn to act as a control group. Meantime, look at the correlation of ED cases with the rise of the Internet. You used to be very hard pressed to find a man under 55 with ED. Suddenly, men in their 40’s and late 30’s are getting it, and even men in their 20’s are seeking pills. I suspect porn has something to do with it.

But that’s just the physical side. I know a lot of men, myself included, who claim to have the value to not use porn for various reasons, but struggle to stay away from it. That psychological dependency is also concerning.

One of the "golden rules" for recovery for me is not to ask irrelevant questions about porn. I'm sorry to say, but the old chestnut of "Is porn really that bad if {insert dodgy source here} says it's okay?" qualifies as an irrelevant question.

If you're a young man who struggles with ED, and you're watching a lot of porn, then you might as well give it up. In the end, you're not really losing a lot by giving up porn... maybe a couple of dopamine squirts, which you could get from a healthier source anyway. On the other hand, the potential gains from quitting porn are enormous (fixing your ED, gaining mental clarity and many others). In other words, it doesn't matter if other people are telling you that porn isn't a problem. You can see what it's done in your own life, and that's the only thing that matters.

Gary Wilson debunked all of these "studies"

It's a really long video so you probably won't watch but from what I remember, the studies were a) massively flawed b) the people conducting them had no real background in addiction and c) the conclusions didn't even match the results. Also one of those people running the study (Nicole Prause) is a porn shill.

Lastly, your ED company have a vested interest in their customers continuing to use something that's harming them so it's no surprise which side of the fence they sit.

This is actually an extremely important point. I wonder if the ED company are more interesting in selling you drugs to try to "manage" the condition, rather than looking at your lifestyle habits to try to actually cure it.

Great points! Yeah, it drives companies wild that we can simply do nothing but abstain from porn – which costs nothing – and we become healthier and happier.

It's an app/website with video tutorials etc. from "experts" it was not pushing pills. It said that 85% of men's ED is psychological. They address porn but say only avoid it if it's ruining your life. A lot of the advice on their was very good but their advice on porn was shockingly bad.

ah ok, well maybe its not evil intentions then, maybe they just ignorant because i think science research on porn still very new and will probabaly take few years to catch up and become mainstream knowledge for all doctors

i talk with my psychiatrist and also a family doctor too about this and they said its nonsense, but then i get second and even third opinion from different urologists and one of them said porn can be bad and even recommended me addictions psychiatrist specializing in porn tratment. so i think most of them just dont know any better, they just go by outdated science

I agree with them that most of the problems with ED are above the belt, but I think they might underestimate the damage that porn does there. Porn conditions the brain to expect certain things from a sexual encounter that just don't happen in the real world, things like a partner who is orgasmic continually, a partner who is able to change from a buxom blonde to a petite Asian by simply opening another tab, a partner who will happily perform any sexual act regardless of the risk to her... I could go on.

It's best to simply abstain from porn for as long as it takes, spend some time focusing on the 98% of life that has nothing to do with sex, and give your mind time to recover.

"Porn conditions the brain to accept certain things from a sexual encounter that just don't happen in the real world"

I think this is the biggest issue all of them.

Except that I made a typo when I wrote my previous post (which I've since now corrected). It should read "Porn conditions the brain to expect certain things from a sexual encounter that just don't happen in the real world". That should make more sense to the majority of the readers of this post.

This is something that worries me as the partner of someone who I feel has PA. (We are very much at the start of our journey towards his recovery).

I’m tempted to encourage him to get checked out by the doctor, just in case the issues he is experiencing could be symptoms of something else. But the worry that they will put it down to ‘one of those things that happens sometimes’ and give him the idea that continuing to to view P is ok really scares me.

The only friend I’ve opened up to laughed it off as ‘well I watch with my partner and it’s never affected us’ it didn’t go down well that I pointed out that I can drink alcohol or buy a lottery ticket without it being a problem but many people can’t…..
