OK I know about my addictive side but there is one area that I'm finding hard to beat - Chocolate!!

I'm going hard mode with Snickers bars but I'm edging with Hobknobs. One is never enough though and after the second you feel good but not completely satisfied, so you have the third and then feel guilty!

And is it alright to share a chocolate bar or bag of treats with a partner or Friend? Or is that considered a relapse?

I admit I am failing miserably and haven't managed a day without that pleasure.

I am however truly concerned as I'm terrified of diabetes.

    Any thoughts Anyone?

  2. I think when it comes to food, moderation is key. If you deny yourself everything you enjoy, you're just gonna be miserable. My mom is on a pretty strict diet, and she has small little chocolate bar things that she eats one a day, like half at lunch and half after dinner. She's been really successful so far with moderating things without cutting everything out completely. I think that's the way to go when it comes to food.

So true. Think everyone needs one vice or we wouldn't be human :)

when you do eat sweets, eat the healthiest garbage you can. That way, although you still relapse from time to time you aren't hurting yourself that much.

  5. I think different people need different approaches. Moderation might work for some, I'm not one of them. I gotta cut everything that's bad for me out or else it will snowball. Food for me is addictive. Like P. I gotta stay completely away from bad food to be safe. There is no such thing as moderation of P for somebody who has addiction. Or moderation of alcohol for alcohol addicted person. But of course it's not like that for everybody. For some it's just a matter of lack of disciple which can be trained.

I cut out chocolate a while ago and I feel great. I replaced it with black, 99% chocolate, no sugar added. And we can always binge on fruits and stuff, they are delicious too. There are many different delicious healthy snacks. It's not about denying everything you enjoy, just the stuff that's you know bad for you.

Processed sugars are super-stimuli, just like P. We are not supposed to have that stuff in nature. It's addictive in our genes. Our brain thinks they found the best fruit possible full with healthy calories, water and vitamins. But instead we have processed sugars with tons of artificial taste, smell and color enhancers. Which are not yet proven to be dangerous, hence allowed to use. Just like all the other now known cancer creating chemicals before. They were not proven to be dangerous either at some point.

Read Yourbrainonporn.com and replace "porn" with "processed foods", they work the same and does just as much harm only in different areas. Why would you even want that in your life? I feel that everybody who does is just ignorant on what effect it has on the body. Just like people who say there is no such thing as P addiction or PIED. Not proven? Doesn't exist!

    Hi Shugi, I'm confused!

"I cut out chocolate a while ago and I feel great. I replaced it with black, 99% chocolate"

What is this replacement? Would love to give it a try.

    Thanks

  7. I mean it's still a chocolate but no sugar added, mostly cocoa butter. It's real chocolate not that "chocolate" you can get at your average sweet store that's pretty much just mostly a block of processed sugar. It's bitter as hell, especially first time I tasted it. But now I'm used to it. And I can actually taste different flavors. It's really amazing how sugar numbs your taste buds. It's best to start from 70% and then move up as you get used to intense taste. You can use any brand but I personally get them from Lindt - http://www.lindt.ca/en/shop/our-brands/excellence-ca/excellence-cocoa-99-ca

Thanks Shugi. I have seen the Lint and will give it a try. I don't think I have a major problem with chocolate but do want to cut my "dependency" on it. I enjoy a little after lunch and an orange, but did get into a Snicker bar every day habit!

  9. This stuff is mostly good fat and it has lots of fiber, iron and antioxidants. Chocolate is great for your health, the right kind one.

  11. I was gonna suggest the "real" chocolate, with cocoa and no sugar added. Good tip. Plus it's insanely amazing and way better than the cheap stuff, anyway. :)
