Masturbating in my Sleep

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by LifeTransformation2017, Jun 15, 2016.

  1. No I'm not having a wet dream. I'm masturbating in my sleep. I did some research on it and it's called sexsomnia. It's very similiar to sleep walking. It happened to me twice since my last relapse. It has also happened several times before that. While it doesn't happen often I find it very bothersome since it's delaying my reboot progress. When it happens I feel terrible. It makes me feel like I've just relapsed, even though I don't count it as a relapse since I never do it intentionally. When it happens it's like you're in a trance. You can see what you're doing, but you don't realize what's going on. You have no control over yourself. You're just along for the ride. I feel like I may be suffering from REM behavior disorder. People who suffer from REM behavior disorder usually act out dreams and remember the dream they were acting out, although they may not understand what happened when they first wake up. In the dream, their action may be completely justified, but to an outside observer their actions may be completely meaningless or random. This describes exactly what I'm suffering from. There's one good example I can think of. One time I was watching videos of Marine Corps boot camp because a good friend of mine was going into the Marines. I have a lot of buddies in the marines and I've considered enlisting myself. Anyway I was watching this video in the evening. I can't remember if it was late in the evening or earlier, but later that evening I went to bed. I remember I dreamed that I was at Marine Corps boot camp and that for whatever reason I had to masturbate. Totally random and makes no sense right? Well while still asleep I took off my pajamas and started jerking away. When I orgasmed I woke up and realized what happened. Since this started happening I did some research of ways to treat this disorder. I've been trying to get to bed earlier and make sure I get enough sleep. I've also been trying to take some time to relax and wind down before bed. The website that I went on also said to cut back on caffeine at least in the hours before bed which is something I've done. They also said to avoid spending time on computers or mobile devices before bed because the blue light emitted from these devices keeps you awake. I cut off using my phone or my computer 2 hours before I go to bed. Another thing the article mentioned was to get regular exercise which I haven't done lately, but I'm planning on starting. Taking all of these steps to prevent my sexsomnia has worked. I've only masturbated in my sleep twice since my last relapse which was 17 days ago. I just wanted to know if any of you have experienced this or something similiar? If so, do you know any other ways to prevent it that I didn't mention? I really hope that I never masturbate in my sleep again. If you can answer any of my questions please do so. I want to do anything I can to prevent myself from masturbating in my sleep again.

How are you sure it isn't a wet dream? I have had many wet dreams about myself masturbating, and wake up right at the point of O. This may sound strange but have you thought of setting up your phone on a time-lapse video of yourself at night or something? To see if you really are actually masturbating or if it is just a wet dream? Otherwise how can you tell which one it is?

Hopefull is not like paranormal activities. Jokes aside though I've had dreams about jerking it only to relapse down the road then remember my dream from weeks before was the same pornography, but alas my wet dreams are always about sex. Good point here though try to catch yourself to see if sleep jerking is real.

  5. I know for a fact that it's not a wet dream because when I wake up I'm naked from the waist down with my hand around my penis.

Hmm very interesting. I've never heard of that before. But if it were me I would just ask a doctor about it and maybe getting some sleep medication. If there is nothing medically to be concerned with I wouldn't worry. To me the point of NoFap is to stop addictions and re-wire your brain. If you are masturbating in your sleep, it's like sleepwalking, and you can't control it, then it wouldn't cause the same reactions in your brain as masturbating to porn would. That's my view.
