People with addictions can abstain from PMO and recover, but they will surely relapse quickly, this is a long process and in which people give up very easily.

Most of the time it is simply because they might not have something better to do. Well, this has always been the question. What to do ? What can you do ?

Internet is available everywhere and porn can be accessed so easily anytime. Since its right there at your fingertips, what else can we do that will be beneficial because one of the other problems that porn addicts have is procrastination.

If i'm not PMO'ing, i'm doing something else that is still wasting time. What are some quick things that people can do to make things de-escalate ?

Hey man. You can do quite a few things. I would read, exercise and socialize. You gotta do things to improve your whole entire life now. You won't get the same satisfaction right away because it doesn't hit you as hard as porn but you will start to adapt. Keep up the great work.

Well, watching porn is a selfish thing, so anything unselfish would probably do. Things like helping others, or trying to make a change in the world. Going online and giving people advice, making time for your grandmother, get involved at a dog shelter, wash somebody's car. I think the best activities are the ones that shift our thinking away from ourselves.

Before doing PMOing, do some self searching and determine what you found "fun" during that time. If you were 12 or something before you last PMOd, think of how much fun or something talking to friends or playing sport were. Focusing on working out is a good idea especially at a local gym, because you can both work out and make friends to hang out with. As someone else said, reading can also take your mind off porn (don't read books with any triggers though!).

In all seriousness though, a technique I've began to use (I call it "the lazy method") is helping quite a bit. Basically, if I'm sitting down or lying in bed and I'm tempted to PMO, I just sit there and do nothing until the urge passes. It's great because you literally don't have to do anything. Just sit there!

It might not work for everyone, because it's important that you also don't dwell on the thought of masturbating.

If the urges aren't wearing off, the. Go do something.
Here are a few things to do that I've thought of
Mediate, go find a geocache, go ride a bike, skateboard, rollerblades, go on YouTube and learn how to juggle, build something, meet with friends, go for a walk, do some origami, learn a card trick, photoshop something, go "music exploring" (go to the iTunes Store and try to find new music that you like. There are thousands of bands out there that are great that nobody knows about!), text an old friend, read about something you're interested in, clean the house,

Hope this helps! Good luck with your reboot!

  8. good point, it's hard to beat the excitement of porn, I think people need to be educated on that, every one is looking to feel as good, from doing normal activities, why, even sex with wife does not add up to excitement from watching porn, in some cases, just generalizing.

    @Walcotx001 @pmarch12 @VividKibitzer @TacoKing @yukon

Thank you all for sharing your ideas. Exercising is something I need to start. It's a great idea to do sports and I actually enjoy it with my friends. I play sports at a level that you can consider it a workout.

@TacoKing I have tried lying down waiting for the urge to pass. It's not as easy because it takes for ever for me to get over it and I dwell on it so not a good idea. It works for some but I am just too horny at times. Learning to do new things is a great idea. Biking and rollerblading are things I really enjoy but I haven't done it in 5 years. Thank you for reminding me, that's a great idea.

@pmarch12 I should engage in charity work. Doing social work is very pleasing and just the idea of helping others sort of helps you. Thanks a lot.

I think I am doing great so far. I am staying positive. Day 12 and Day 13 were absolutely horrific because I was very horny. Very strong erections and thoughts. I was able to calm myself down doing something I learned from the movie Incredible Hulk. Click on this link to read that post.

  13. those days are also the very worst for me, hard to get past them, I am on day four. I plan on doing some real exiting things on day 14 or so, like go to a funny movie, to keep my self happy as I can.

Great. Just try to keep yourself busy. Just a day ago I found out something about scientists discovering that it takes about 66 days for a human being to change his habits. I haven't verified whether this statement is true online but it sounds reasonable. So to become PMO free, we need to approximately AT LEAST not do it for 2 months!

Let me tell you my story. When I decided not to indulge in this pornographic mess I, too, faced such boredom but slowly I realized there are many more things in this world. I started using the same laptop and Internet connection for other things which I used for porn. I would download pdf format of famous books and read. I read Albert Camus, J. Krishnamurti, Fredrick Nietzsche, Eckhart Tolle, Osho, Brain Greene, Richard Dawkins..... I was astonished by their insight, by their knowledge, by their quest, by their dedication for something valuable for all. I thought these people are gem of humankind, they contributed so much! And what I have done as a human being? Watching porn and wasting my resources! This realization put me in great shame. I was ashamed.

Now my priorities have been changed.
