This isn't a dick measuring contest by any means, I just want to get some honest info to gauge things. My number is >12 TB. I would love some responses, this is something I've been curious about for a long time, but generally too taboo to ever talk about and this seems like the perfect venue and context for this discussion. I have actually tried to bring it up once before on another forum, but no one responded and it felt like everyone was looking at me funny. You don't have to get this detailed, but I'd just like to throw this in there because I honestly have no idea if I'm way abnormal extreme porn addict or a "well adjusted" porn addict. 12 TB, pretty much exclusively full HD video from the biggest US and select European production companies. No amateur, no low quality, nothing "weird." The image sets only take up ~150 GB so that's a drop in the bucket here. Anyway, but now with 4K porn the figures could easily increase by an order of magnitude if habits don't change. I figure, high speed internet is dirt cheap; everyone has it. Hard drives are dirt cheap; you can buy 3 TB drives for around $100. Porn is also dirt cheap; enough said. With those considerations, I feel like I've got to be pretty typical, but at the same time I'm quite self conscious about it. Alright.. Lemme know. Thanks.
0mb You know this is a forum for people trying to stop looking at porn right? But to answer your question, 12TB sounds like an awful lot, the most I ever had on my hdd was probably 2-3GB or something, but then again Im not a collector. How many hrs is that even? do you plan on watching it all?
Yes Scar, I'm aware. I am here to join the "stop looking porn" community as well.. but this is a sub-forum about porn addiction after all... So I assume I'm not the only porn addict and porn addicts usually collect porn and thus I'm probably (hopefully) not the one with a massive collection. All that said, I'd love to grow the balls the just rm -rf the fuck out of it all. Somewhere in the range of 4000 hours. Never thought of it like that. That's kind of blowing my mind actually. That's a lot of fucking wasted time. Nah, I've never watched all of it. If I had to guesstimate usually only watch maybe 10% of each scene/film/video. I don't think I've watched an entire porn scene from beginning to end. Even with their billion dollar profits none of these clowns are good enough to make a porn worth watching in full like that. Anyway, like I said before.. what I really plan on doing is rm-ing the whole thing. Maybe like publicly. Maybe that's something I can share with the community if I ever grow the balls to go through with it.
It's an order of magnitude more. It's 12,000 GBs, not 120. 1 TB = 1000 GB. You can just think of it as 3 fully loaded 3 TB HDDs.. plus some overflow on another. If that helps visualize it.
Ok, I wasnt sure what your motives were for starting this thread, but if youre here to end an addiction I am more than willing to help you in whatever way possible. If youre dedicated, youll delete everything (or smash the drives with a baseball bat) right this minute, you know you wont be able to quit until you do, so what are you waiting for?
I don't need a baseball bat. I've got dd and /dev/zero. Not looking to throw $$ in the trash, in the form of perfectly good hardware, but I am hoping that one day I will actually get rid of the porn sitting on said hardware.
agreed, what are you hoping for? You can chose to become that person that formats the drives this minute or you chose not to, thats all there is to it.
I deleted all my porn too, but I do still have some pictures of famous women I think are beautiful (no porn pictures or whatever not even softcore). I'm deleting one picture a day for NoFap so i'm going back in time.
What the hell, man!? 12 Terabytes? You're shitting me, right? Man... You probably had all of the worlds porn in there. And that's nothing to be proud of. I'm actually feeling sick to my stomach right now. The biggest amount of porn I've ever had was something below 500 Megabytes and I though I had too much already. No offense, but are you sure you don't have some kind of compulsive hoarding disorder? My father has it and he has his computer and house full of junk. And I really mean FULL. I had kind of a emotional bond to all the porn I had on my computer, but I deleted it ALL in one click and I haven't been missing them since. Just choose to delete them. You don't have to wait for anything. You'll be grateful you did.
I had about 1gb back in the day. Even when I "liked" the stuff, I didn't like it on my computer. I mainly just used the internet. That doesn't mean I haven't looked at terabytes and terabytes of porn. I probably have! I just didn't keep it on my computer.
Over the past several years I've reached the point several times that I tried to stop and deleted around 300 to 500 GB. Each time, it was a relief. "Nothing is more worthless than the huge amount of porn stored on that hard drive" I always said to myself. You just begin to ask a question that answers itself: when will I ever have the time necessary to look at all that porn? The thrill of downloading the stuff had become the thing I got off on, not the stuff itself.
I had probably 4TB of porn on hard drives but a little over a month ago I woke up one morning and said fuck it and unplugged them and threw them down the garbage chute in my building. felt good and i made up my mind that i want to get better. i have relapsed several times since but i am still determined.
I appreciate all the responses and feedback, but I feel like I need to address a few things... I am looking for respondents more like myself, individuals who are or were in a position more similar to that of myself. Individuals who's position I can relate to, vice versa and maybe even learn from. As I understand it, this is a sub-forum about pornography addiction. This poll, concerning porn addiction, has thus far attracted 23 participants. It's hard for me to comprehend how 22 of those 23 respondents can consider themselves to be suffering such an addiction. If you've only hoarded a few GBs of porn, then how can you be addicted? It's like a heroin addict who never had and/or doesn't have much heroin. It just doesn't make sense to me. Especially being as it's 2014 and HD porn films these days are easily 5 GB or more per unit. If you don't have at least a TB of content, then it's hard for me to understand how or what you're addicted to? The guys who have/had 10 gigs of porn and think that it is/was the worse thing ever; I am happy for you guys, I really am, I'm glad you've bettered yourselves. However, I don't think it's really the right place for all that so with all due respect please take this into consideration. Another thing I'd like to note is that emotional appeals do not appeal to me. In fact, they are quite off putting to me. I am concerned only with logic and not any irrational woo-woo. If you have an appeal you'd like to present, be it publicly or privately, please ensure that it's devoid of dogma and do try to keep it strictly logical. Let me just state it again for the record; yes, I've hoarded 12 TBs of porn and no it's not something of which I am in any way proud. I'm not trying to boast about it and I'm sorry if that's how it came off to some people despite my best intentions. I'm not proud of it, but at the same time I am not entirely ashamed either. What am I am ashamed of is the amount of time I've wasted. To be honest I don't play video games, I never have, not even as youth or adolescent. However, the majority of males in this culture do play video games. When I look at or hear about the amounts of time some of these individuals spend per day, week, month, year, lifetime playing these games it makes me feel.. more justified. Thank you,
Hi, had to jump in here.... this is actually a forum about NoFap. Porn leads to fapping, plain and simple and that's the goal, not just about saving time (though time,energy, peace of mind do result from giving up the habbit). The amount of porn is irrelavent as 1 picture can be enough to trigger a response. Anyone serious about NoFap understands one of the first things that has to go is the porn, be it a collection or simply a habbit of surfing for porn on the web. Just as a smoker needs to get rid of the smokes if he is to have a chance of success, so the trigger of porn has to go as well. Having said that, ppl come here for different goals, not everyone sees the need to stop pmo, some see it as even healthy in small doses... but it seems the majority (esp those with journals), identify pmo as having a damaging effect on their lives and relationships, and thus see abstinence in one form or another as the only way to break this damaging addictions hold. You have asked a question specific to porn collections, if I personally had kept my collections over the years then perhaps the total hour viewage (lesser quality, same length) might be right up there, but having seen the damage it does to me and to others, I have regularly deleted any I have had, and now pretty much don't keep any. Your forum may make more sense if you stated your purpose (both long and short term) for being here. Thanks
