New Here! Currently Day 5 going to Day 6!

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by calistenicshype, Feb 8, 2017.

  1. Brief Background: I started PMO when I was 17, Im going to be 23 this year, so it has been about 5 years +.

How I got here: Just a few days back I suddenly thought that PMO was consuming me in a negative way and I had to do something about it. I came across this forum because I was interested to see what others are doing to curb their PMO addiction.

Why I signed up: I took some time to reflect and realised that I always ended up resorting to PMO when I was bored or possess sexual desires in my mind. I always end up feeling tired and sometimes drained (in contrary to saying masturbation is healthy to do in many online articles) and I do it once a day or 3-4 times a week in total. In addition, I discovered that I could only orgasm through PMO instead of normal masturbation, which I think is better. Sometimes, I would have these images flash across my mind as I was studying, making me unable to concentrate. Hence, I felt that I had to do something about it.

What happened: 5 days ago, I decided to take up the 30 day nofap challenge to see whether I could achieve my first streak. I didn't plan for it or anything, and just spontaneously started. So far, it has been a smooth journey without problems although I had instances when I thought of those images. Fortunately, I exercise on a regular basis and was able to take my mind off PMO. School assignments and projects made it easier for me too. Looking forward to hitting my goal! Keep myself motivated by reading some of the threads here and cheering for those who are also trying hard out there. I am really glad that there are many who want to make a difference in their life and do better!

Welcome and good luck! This is a great community, with more support than you could possibly find anywhere, so make the most of it and use us here as shoulders to lean on. I think it's smart to set your sights on 30 days first. There are many challenges on the road ahead, and looking too far forward to 90 days or more can often lead to disappointment at first. I know I've had many failures and setbacks before making it this far. When you get 30 days you can adjust your sights. Expect to have some periods of very intense desires (usually day 7-21) and some periods of low activity or "flatline" (day21+). Of course everyone is different but you can expect to see many benefits. If you use nofap as a tool to allow you to accomplish other things in your life, there are no limits. Good luck!

That is unusually late for a person to start masturbating to porn and not that frequent compared to most. Did you not have very strong sexual urges during puberty? As you have not immersed yourself in porn from a young age, your recovery should be easier and quicker than many. So, it is all good news buddy. Keep asking about anything that seems strange.

  6. Fortunately, for my case, I didn't experience strong sexual urges during puberty. When I was around 14-16, I had like these feelings of attraction for girls for the first time though. Furthermore, I was pretty focused on schoolwork and sports then. That probably helped. But when I got to 17, I was exposed to pornography for the first time by some of my friends, who claimed that it was normal and said that I was dumb for not starting earlier. Now I feel dumb for falling into that trap, but nevertheless now its time for me to make a change. Appreciate the advice and well wishes!

    Cheers.

Hey @calistenicshype I was a bit of a late starter myself, probably the same sort of age. Didn't really discover porn until 17ish when a mate of mine at college lent me a beat up VHS video with a few films on, lol!! This was back in the day when you couldn't just call porn up on your phone or laptop (the dial up speed, before broadband, was appauling back in about 1996-1997).

I'd watched a few soft core films on various tv channels, but didn't really get me going as such. As technology progressed at became so much easier to access porn. I remember on websites the best you could hope for was a short 10 second clip for free, otherwise you'd have to pay to see any more. I found lately though I was doing it more out of boredom rather than me feeling horny, so thought "What the Hell am I doing??" Hence, I decided to rejoin here and give up.

These forums are awesome, for both information and support. Whenever you feel any urges just head here instead of your favourite porn website and you'll find some brilliant tips and advice. wishing you all the best with your journey my man

  8. Hey there! I am currently on my Day 10 going 11.

I can relate to the "doing it more out of boredom rather than me feeling horny" part. Sometimes I just watch it because I like to doing something else other than studying (I am a college student) or reading books. In the end, it became a routine and an addiction. Sometimes after PMO, I feel so tired and unmotivated that I end up sleeping for long hours instead of doing what I need to do. So far these forums are like a diary for me to record my progress and understand what other people are going through or doing. Overall, it has been a educational experience.

Appreciate the heads up! Will continue to work on my recovery.

    Cheers.

That's brilliant work my man! Keep up the good work. Can't say I felt tired after I'd masturbated but probably 9 times out if 10 it was because I was bored or no-one was in the house so kind of made the most of having the house to myself. Try and keep your focus in your studies man and you'll get there. And like I said log in here and chart your progress and there's guys here who'll give you all the help and support you need. Best of luck dude and stay strong
