Dopamine theory

    Last night had a few drinks. Alcohol triggers a dopamine spike. Drenched my receptors and created a deficit for today. Now I need artificial stimulants to increase my dopamine because the artificial hit last night made my natural dopamine levels out of whack today.
    Thoughts?
     
  2. I know that after I drink, especially if it's a bender, I may get a few urges here and there the next day.

    If you're looking to get more "hits" today because of decisions you made yesterday then you're just repeating the same mistake. You're going to get a temporary high, then a low. I guess you would call that self-medicating. Or saying that you need to get your fix because you perpetually feel like crap but you feel like crap because you keep getting your fix in the first place.

    See what I mean? Just deal with the crappiness of the day. That's what withdrawals are.

    Also, I see "dopamine" get thrown around a little too much when it comes to rebooting from porn. I think we need to be careful when using that, seeing as we're probably not all neuroscientists and don't understand the finer points of the chemistry behind this problem (which I'm sure not even neuroscientists do)(yet).

    That's why I said theory. I think we underestimate the role dopamine plays in our everyday decisions. Thedopamineproject has some interesting info. Anyway thanks for your replies
