Today I want to talk about porn addiction and share what I've learned from dealing with it ever since I seriously committed to quit in November 10, 2017.

This is what I've found to help me, and I'm sure it can help some of you too. So without further ado here it goes:

Mornings and nights: We might have heard this a million times, but how we start and end our day DOES matter, in fact, in my case, if I start the day by instantly grabbing my phone, checking FB while still in bed and start getting urges to masturbate, I end up doing it without much struggle. In result I end up drained and feeling like a failure. And if I do the same at night, I wake up thinking about porn and with the urge of masturbating again in the morning. It's like a never ending cycle.

I have found that by saying a prayer, affirmations or just saying "thank you for..." first thing in the morning and getting up right after, I lower the chances of falling into PMO. Putting away the phone, iPad, Laptop or whatever electronic devise before going to sleep also helps.

No peaks: Doing one thing will always lead to doing another, so let's not kid ourself, because those google searches of hot girls sooner or later end up with us watching porn and beating our salami.

Abstaining from little peaks has much to do with:

Dealing with boredom: Many of us don't fall into PMO because we seek validation or an escape from our problems, many of us do it because we're BORED, so since we're bored, we immediately seek stimulation, and what better stimulation is there for us here than Porn?

Dealing with boredom and the urges of PMO isn't easy, but by making a daily To-do list, going for a walk, or talking to someone every time you and I get an urge, we can start winning this battle little by little.

Feeding the right parts: What I mean by this is that whatever you feed grows, and whatever you starve dies, so by slowly replacing hours of porn and masturbation with hours of learning a new skill, reading the Bible, exercising, socializing, etc, we'll be feeding the soul, heart and mind more than our extreme desires, which in result makes us not only healthier but also stronger at dealing with the urges.

Quitting on Monday and going overboard: Let's say that after following the four steps above you and I still managed to fail over and over again.

Sometime ago, If I made the commitment to quit on Monday and had a clean 2-3 days streak by Wednesday, but somehow relapsed on Thursday, telling myself I failed this week and that I'll start next Monday became an excuse for me to say "Okay, so if I'm gonna completely stop by next Monday I gotta enjoy these last few days", which also became an excuse for me to go overboard and masturbate 3-4 times a day for the next days up until Monday, but because I did it so much in those days, it had already became a habit again and it was obviously harder to quit after that.

Now if I relapse on Thursday instead of jacking off furiously until Monday, I gradually decrease the number of times I masturbate, let's say Thursday 1, Friday 1, Saturday 0, Sunday 1... that way quitting by Monday becomes a lot easier. (It's true that many people can stop for weeks or moths as soon as they relapse again, but for me it's more of a step by step journey).

So that's it, I believe this can be applied to anything, and if it helped at least one of you then that's all that matters. In the end we're all here to help and lift each other up, am I right?

  4. I got into the habit of making my bed as SOON as I get out of it and before my shower. That way I'm wayyy less tempted to go back to bed and PMO in bed. In the evening I also try to stay away from my bed and only slide under the sheets when I'm about to turn the lights off. I found it helps me tremendously.
