These are just some random thoughts I had about nofap and what it does...

Most people that need nofap also tend to be slightly overweight, suffer from some other addiction or have an awfully hard time focusing on tasks. These problems are normally caused by boundary and self-discipline issues! I have come to believe that issues with discipline come from problems with delaying gratification early on in life. That is the core of NoFap. Putting aside a massive dopamine rush for smaller and more fortifying dopamine rushes.

  2. Haha, 100% disagreed. As I see myself absolutely not this way. I don't know anybody else here personally but I don't think you're right in what you think about them.
What's the difference for you between to need NoFap and not to need it? I ask because you bolded the word.
    Why are you on NoFap?

It’s a psychological addiction that requires discipline. It is not a physical addiction where you’d get sick or even die from a withdrawal. The vast majority of relapses come from not enough self-discipline.

I’m on NoFap to help establish discipline in my life. People that can’t bring themselves to stop channeling their unfiltered sexual urges through a screen need NoFap.

  5. Okay. But I don't understand. Does this support or contradict my opinion? As I understood @Jamariky he thinks that most people are here as a consequence of a lack of self-discipline. He didn't speak about relapses I thought...

I’m saying relapses are a lack of self-discipline in that moment. Is it bad? No, it’s a learning experience, but it also wouldn’t have happened with self-discipline.

  7. Okay. So you try to establish self-discipline by abstaining from masturbation? And most of the others are here because of a porn addiction.
This may seem so, but I've chatted with many people and they all had different causes. Maybe it's more complex than it seems to you at first sight.

Self displine is a major factor but don't ignore the fact that most people here in general are on a quest for a better life and nofap is just a means of achieving it.

I'm not sure that even as a generalization that is accurate. I have a high level of discipline in many aspects of my life that people find admirable or look at it as something to strive towards. I work out a minimum of 5 days a week, have an almost perfect diet, and I have a huge attention span. This is why I've been able to juggle PMO and substance abuse addiction without anyone who knows me firsthand ever calling into question my "direction" in life. Those of us who demand the most from ourselves are counterbalanced with stronger appetites of vice. This is Nietzsche 101.

Discipline is what evolves out of consistent, dedicated response to fear. I started workout out every day, ten years ago, because I was afraid of being weak and skinny. My diet became near perfect out of self hate. My I pushed my attention span to where I can work on problems, uninterrupted, for hours on end because I was afraid my peers were smarter and more focused than I. Now I try to do nofap out of fear for myself - not a longing for self discipline.

I never had a reason to be afraid of PMO when I was younger because no one was making rational, empirically-backed arguments when I started. Had I been exposed to good arguments when I was younger I probably would have never started. Consider what Nietzsche wrote in the Will to Power (loosely quoted):

"If you ask a young boy, 'whilst thou be virtous?' He will idly look down at his feet and answer 'yes'. But when you ask him 'whilst thou be stronger than thy comrades?' His face will light up, he will stand up straight and energetically answer 'yes!'"

I don't see how anyone can disagree or deny that we all have issues with self discipline. If you can honestly say you have no issues with self discipline, then you would not be here. Self displine is literally the ONLY thing stopping any of us from PMOing. We have a choice, every single time, but we don't have the self discipline to make the right choice.

Yes if you have such a great level of self displine as you say then maybe your brain does not accept pmo as a threat to your self displine. If you really have a high level of self displine then this journey of nofap may be very easy for you but so is not the case with everyone you have to admit that this world is full of exceptions and you might be just the one.

  12. NoFap is a support-group style website intended to inform and assist the healing process of a pornography addiction.

In short, NoFap is growing up.

This is a schizophrenic psychology, where the self is separated between the rational and the irrational. It leads on to Freud who cemented that split in our culture [sex is now perceived to be a need]. Mastery begins with self-mastery, where reason is in control of the passions. Plato is the right psychology for recovering addicts to turn to.

The choice is abstract not real [like our political rights]. Virtue is the power of having real choice, where freedom is self-determination.

  15. Nofap by itself won't do anything. It's giving up the pleasure mindset & discipline that truly make this a wonderful experience.

I am neither overweight (little belly fat) nor I have any other addiction
    So I disagree
