Are women the weaker sex?

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Julius93, Jun 22, 2018.

  1. Maybe she isn't pleased with you because of this thread?

I don't know how this forum was designed at the very beginning, so I cannot say whether this argument is circular or not.

It's true that some female members are failing miserably. It's always painful to see that. I somehow believe that they do better. There is not much evidence to back it up, so I guess that we have to withhold judgement. It's still interestng though.

No, not because of this. I have violated the rules once way back.

  4. I don't know where you're getting that idea and while every gal is different, for me personally I'm in an endless torture of hell. I feel like I'm even worse off then most men in terms of addiction to be honest, but in reality it doesn't matter what gender you are as either sex has the possibility to become addicted to porn or sonething else.

If it's "so easy" for us women to quit then I should of been able to do so many many years ago, still hasn't happened yet…

  5. I i like how this thread about women is mostly all a bunch of guys making assumptions about women. I dont claim to know how women think or how they handle addiction, but i do know that there are some very strong women on here who are obviously as addicted as any of us and trying hard to climb out of it. I think it all depends on the individual person. Some women are smarter than men some are not, some are emotionally stronger than men and some are not, and some are more addicted than some men and some are not, the rest is all speculation and assumptions.

Yeah. Now I re-read it, it is a quite strong conclusion that I put there. I should have said it differently. It's just my perception. I have done some searching on the internet, but I couldn't find anything useful on the matter. Some pages even state the opposite: women are more susceptible to porn addiction.

I personally have received more help from female members on NoFap than male members. I have also done some reading on this forum that pushed me to think in that direction. Still, not much can be based upon it.

I am sorry to hear that you have been struggling so much. However, you have 39 days on your counter, which is a good sign. You will be alright.

Ha! Nicely put, mate. I agree with what you say.

There are a few posts on here that actually make any sense. (Edit: Not like the two above, I meant comments #45 and 46), and it's just my opinion that we, as porn addicts, shouldn't segregate on the basis of gender to determine who requires more sensitivity, concern or support. Of course, there are biological differences between men and women, and exceptions to these differences, but seriously? I know some sensible people have pointed out how everyone should be treated with compassion, but I couldn't restrain myself from hopping in. I don't see any evidence suggesting one gender is superior to another in rebooting, or being susceptible to porn addiction. The rate of rebooting, how fast we grow, how hard our fights are for us, how often we relapse are all things that are personalised for each individual. We all come from different backgrounds, different environments, have different motivations to change and levels of exposure to porn, so it's pointless trying to use something so vague to determine if, 'women (or men) are the weaker sex.' The strength of abstinence comes from a mindset to change. Not from generalisations.

    Such threads are silly.

(Edit: Huh, well, that got sorted out. Go figure. No notifications... Bummer)

I find it interesting. It won't help you much on your recovery, but it's still interesting.

I also find it a bit funny that the woman that admitted to be weak and struggling has more progress than you two combined. It doesn't say anything though. : p

Lol, but I still stick to what I say. I don't see anything interesting about reboot growth based on a vague topic like 'gender.' Maybe I don't like your title. So I'm biased.

But yeah, Sarah W.'s way farther than either of us in terms of recovery, and I think @What I Do That Defines Me will agree. :) We're all struggling, but it's safe to say that she is setting an example for all fapstronauts alike.

  11. Nicely put, i agree entirely.

  12. 39 Days may look good on a counter but one slip up and it's gone in seconds, I've gone over 70 days before relapsing and when I relapse it's this disgusting binge fest I can't stop for days/weeks. I've been addicted since I was a kid and haven't been able to break the cycle thus far.

I'm not a researcher or scientist in any fashion so I can only speak for myself. Porn itself oddly isn't the biggest problem for me, every time after a week or two it turns from craving porn to sex, which ends up leaving me frustrated and eventually thinking it's okay to MO once which never ends there. I have a very vivid imagination as well so after the chaser effect I of course want to MO again but much sooner, eventually the thoughts turn right back to porn again and the cycle continues. It sounds like male and female urges for porn may differ slightly, but overall I think the addiction aspect is the same and is down to how long you've had it, how deep/entrenched it is in your mind, and how resistant your brain is to things like stress and such.

Some folks seem to struggle more or less than others especially if you they have/had addiction problems or personalities, honestly I'd rather deal with quitting smoking again compared to this any bloody day.

  14. I never claimed that i was anything special (far from it) and she (like many women here) is an inspiration to people like me. I dont agree that its because its easier for her, I think she got there from a lot of hard work, effort, and determination and saying its easier for her than you or me takes away from all that. Thats all im saying.

You will get aroused at one point. That's inevitable, but the art is how to deal with those feelings. Abstinence is not easy. I am also triggered the whole time, but those triggers currently don't cause an urge to PMO. I don't see it as an option anymore. I am fed up with it. Then again, I am not really "addicted" to PMO. I have my own reasons to quit. Talking/writing about it might help you get your thoughts straight. It worked for me. After a certain time, you will just let go of it.

  19. Not to pry, but you have at least been addicted to something in the past yes?
