I run across this opinion piece this morning: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/21/opinion/boys-violence-shootings-guns.html

I thought it made some interesting points. Maybe it is because I spent some time here on this site prior to finding it, but I ponder if there could be a connection between pornography and violence in boys. Because I'm the dad of 6 and 7 year old boys, and I spend a lot of time in school, I see a lot of the bare minimal effort that goes into parenting and the responsibility parents take for their kid's education.

For example, the normal standard for kindergarten is to know 100 sight words when they move to first grade. So few children knew number and letters coming into kindergarten this year that they had to lower that standard to 50 words because parents didn't work with their kids before starting kindergarten.

Anyway, I could spend half the day writing about inadequate parents and how the school system enables them to be slackers. But that would pretty much amount to me venting my frustration and wouldn't really accomplish anyway. So I will leave it at this and consider it me sharing an thought provoking article.

Wow. One of the few times the New York Times’ opinion section actually uses common sense. Boys are definitely left behind as there are no movements dedicated for them. Plus, with a welfare system that rewards single motherhood/parent, too many lack a good father figure in the home.
