For anyone who is really struggling in the moment, not just with avoiding addictive behaviors but with anything life-related, I highly recommend trying this completely free service.

It is like a hotline, only it is done through text. When you text the service, you initially get an automated service which will then directly connect you to an actual human being (through text, of course) within a few minutes. These people, or 'crisis counselors', have been extensively trained on many different issues that come up, which include (among many others) depression, anxiety, *addiction*, and especially suicide. The organization is also very careful as to who it selects for counseling, so you can be sure that the person you talk to is friendly, empathetic, non-judgemental, and very much willing to help in any way they can. Therefore, if you want to talk to them about urges with porn, absolutely do not hesitate!

I personally think this is great for people who are very familiar with text, and need someone to talk to during a "hot" moment. It is also great for people dealing with suicidal thoughts who feel too anxious to talk over the phone.

I volunteered with the organization for a few months, so if you're interested in hearing more, have any questons, or are interested in volunteering yourself, either message me or visit http://www.crisistextline.org/ .

It also goes without saying that I am a very safe person to talk to myself. My proverbial door is always open!

Does a record of it show up on your phone bill? Are there any that are just done over the internet?

Thanks for sharing, not sure I’d use it though. The thought of telling random strangers all my personal drama through text message sounds awful. But I’m sure other people will find it therapeutic.

  4. You'd be surprised how helpful talking to someone can be.
