Apparition

Fapstronaut
I'm not sure where to even begin...

I never thought I'd find myself on the internet asking for help because I can't stop watching porn or masturbating, but here I am.

It's been obvious to me for a while that porn and masturbation are causing issues in my life, and making me feel...for lack of a better word, like shit. I've tried to stop before, quite a few times actually. Here's how it usually goes. I convince myself to quit, I struggle to keep my mind off of it, I start to feel better again. And then, I go right back to it.

I'm here to give NoFap a try and I'm hoping that it's just the resource I need to kick this habit once and for all. Any advice that you can offer me would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

The only advice I'll give is that you should keep going. PMOing is never a thing someone should escape to when they can't handle shit in their life. You should aim on your life goals as you will notice that watching porn will allow you a lot of free time. And not getting engaged in some sort of activity at that point may lead to a reboot.

Hey welcome to NoFap Apparition. Some advice I can give you is just to learn everything you can about this addiction. I'd start with The Great Porn Experiment Ted Talk by Gary Wilson if you havent seen it already. You might also want to check out his book, Your Brain On Porn too. it could be beneficial to understand why we're addicted. I also recommend trying to avoid triggers as much as possible (phone, pc, tv) during the first week or so. In my opinion start with small goals and build from there. All the best my man and if you ever need support feel free to reach out.

PS: Hope that wasnt too much advice in one post.

Nope, not at all. That was very helpful, thank you. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to beat this addiction at this point.

I cannot thank you enough for talking about the Ted Talk! It had been a while since I've been on and I felt like getting back into research and that helped so much! Thank you Breakthrough23! I also have to look up the book Your Brain On Porn, I have to admit I'm not much of a reader unless I can really relate to it and I think that would do the trick.

Hi there! it is certainly difficult to admit what you have been going through and how it makes you feel. I will say it is exactly like Breakthrough23 said, small goals and build it from that point. Also access to the positive thoughts of the community has really lifted me up in bad times so I'm hoping that can work for you. I am back on the site if you ever want to talk about something, if not thats cool too. I just like to have a continuous dialogue with people, it feels like a pretty good things with fapstonauts in my opinion anyway. For this journey I'm trying to be more serious and more quick about urges. I want to say "Not going to happen" and walk it off, cold shower, positive affirmations etc. Not only for NoFap but I feel we must remember even in our lowest times that we can rise through this, or better yet bad times are like a wave we need to ride out until calmer waters come our way.I tend to ramble when I am up late at night lol. Getting back to the point I hope your journey is successful and you can keep in mind the reasons why you wanted to stop when you get urges.
