Howdy, my name's Alex and I live in Arkansas. I learned about this website while looking for information on the positive effects of abstaining from masturbation and thought it might be a good idea to join and see if anything here can help me achieve my goal of giving up masturbation and pornography.

I've been addicted to pornography and masturbation since I was in my mid-teens. I converted to the Bahá'í Faith at 18, and learned not long after about the Faith's emphasis on chastity outside of marriage, but I didn't change my daily masturbation habit or how I behaved with my then girlfriend now ex. While we never had intercourse, we were quite active in other areas. At 19 I made the promise to myself that I would not have intercourse until marriage, but continued to masturbate and be sexually active in other ways with my girlfriends. The Bahá'í ideal of chastity, though, demands not only abstaining from intercourse but from all sexual activity outside of marriage, as well as sexual fantasies and discourages madturbation. So now, at 21, single, and looking to dedicate myself more fully to my faith, I have decided to not only abstain from ANY sexual activity with anyone until I marry, but to also abstain from madturbation and pornography.
