I have had no motivation for months. Could low dopamine be the cause? What else can i do to fix it?

    A high ideal.
    Curiosity about life (and death).
Acts of compassion instead of acts of lust.

    Hello Fusion,

Low motivation can be caused by a number of factors that aren't mutually related to dopamine. In fact serotonin can also be a key player when it comes to motivation or melancholy in general.

Since I struggle with PTSD my war with serotonin balance is constant and I often feel like I have no motivation.

Everyone says to excirsise but that never worked for me. Instead I try to indulge in positive things that I enjoy. I treat myself to something tasty. But just a snack, it's bad to eat your feelings as they say. But sometimes experiencing something enjoyable with a positive association can stimulate neurotransmitter production in the body.

    Eat a snack.
    Play a video game.
Go for a walk (always helps me to just get out once in a while and get some perspective)
    Work out!
Watch a movie or TV show you really like.
    Talk to someone.
Of course no matter what you do make sure it's safe and that it won't lead you into habits you're trying to avoid.

These are all things that help me, maybe they will help inspire you the next time you feel unmotivated.

Sorry I just read your post again. If low motivation has been persisting for months then it might be important to communicate with a medical professional.

I see a counselor and I keep in regular contact with my primary care physician.
