my husband just told me that there is a hole in the iOS 11 browser that allows you to open private browsing in Safari even with the restrictions on. This was not the case before. I have tried to find a way to shut it off and I cannot figure it out. If you know how please help me! I’m so glad he told me instead of using it.
Great, we just installed that yesterday. I didn't check it to see... guess I should have. Thanks for the heads up.
I'm terrible with tech... Does this mean iPhones and macs? And only if you download the latest software? Thanks
I really have no idea about Macs. I would imagine it would apply but I’ve never owned one. And it is something that we hadn’t noticed before. I do not think it existed before.
to be honest with iPhones iPads its too easy to work around the restrictions on safari. Thus I have mine unrestricted. Macs and PCs are different though with filtering software The best method is to use filtering at the server end level rather than at your home, thus everything is protected without you needing to disable safari. Win Win for everyone.
Get the SPIN browser app. It’s free with excellent customer service. Blocks ALL other browsers and no incognito.
And just FYI.... DON'T UPDATE IF YOU HAVE BLOCKING APPS! they set and "wire" into the mode you start in. So no more updating the internet. Trust me... You aren't missing anything.
I downloaded it an it has an option to get rid of history so that is not the browser for us. Thank you, though
If any of you rely on restrictions I would definitely contact Apple to tell them this is a problem. I spent two hours explaining the problem in a service chat, and I don’t think this was a loophole that was supposed to exist. Hopefully if they realize there is enough need for this to be blocked they will do so in an update.
If you disable safari in restrictions I didnt think you could run safari at all. iOS sandboxes each program it runs (ie they run independently of each other). As a result it is an operating system which is extremely difficult to lock down. I gave up with restrictions as I always found a way around them. Instead my wife has got out service provider to put restrictions in which gives me freedom on my iPad / iPhone.
I've always wondered, is there anything positive or helpful about incognito tabs or the ability to erase history? Maybe for surprises, gifts, etc.? It seems to me the ONLY point is to hide/lie/deceive which is a pretty crappy purpose for any product or service. I know plenty exist. Doesn't make it any less contemptible.
They have a that kind of service at the service provider level? I had no idea that phone companies did that. What company and how does it work? We are currently trying the lion browser which is more of an accountability browser than a filter which is really more what I think he needs. That along with the fact that he can’t download any apps will probably keep him pretty safe.
A blocking app is a app that blocks porn. Like Mobile Fence. Considered a MDM APP (monitor device mode) It's different than a Reporting App, such as Ever Accountable.
Out of morbid curiosity I tried a private browsing tab, and it indeed blocked restricted sites for me on iOS 11.
They send you the complete browser history...I can see the SECOND my SO goes to ANY website. Even if he deletes it, they would still send it to my account.
You can set restrictions on safari then set “limit adult content” and it will not allow you to browse incognito or go to questionable sites. And it will not allow you to delete history.
This is not true with the current hole with the current operating system. I will private message you. I do not want to tempt anyone but I also don’t want anyone relying on it. We did for a long time so I am very disappointed. The more people who complain the more likely they will fix it I think.
It does seems to work if you just turn off all websites and allow only specific websites, that's what my husband wanted on his phone.
