(I have no idea where to place this thread, so I think this is the safest option)

I have no doubt that there is a high chance that I'll give the impression of being a pseud.

But I'm basing this off of the reading and research I've done this summer, and in my opinion that I made about 2 minutes ago from starting to write. I believe this can aid in recovery.

As we had know Nietzche proclaimed, "God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him."

Like many things proclaimed by the late philosopher, it has been misunderstood. This is not meant to be taken seriously. It's a metaphor, that modern man has strayed from god. The idea of God and the rituals we used to communicate and worship "it" (I use this imply multiple religions), no longer take up a significant stake in our modern lives. We have moved away from rituals and seeking out monasteries to practice our beliefs and have replaced different mediums to communicate with something "divine."

Note: I don't mean to say that religion. The concept of religion will never be dead, we as a species, we as a civilization will always find different ways to replace it, but never stray from the concept.

Many of us may have replaced our spiritual need for worship, with porn or pop culture. Think about it! We don't go to temples, we don't go to churches to receive and worship the divine. We use...

Movie theatres, as temples of worship, with the screen giving us direct access to the divine.

We use phones and computers as altars for worship, it's like their black scrying orbs (None of this is my original thought. I can provide sources to those curious)

Watching porn has such a powerful hold on us, is because it provides a spiritual experience. Think about it; when you watch porn you are engaging in worship, what you may worship can differ from person to person:

    You may worship the flesh
    You may worship yourself
You may worship, the idea of you being worshipped by someone else (Sissy Hypnosis, CD porn, and other submissive fetishes)

You may argue, that you're already religious. That already worships some form of diety, but who said you can't have multiple faiths?

I personally believe a key step in freedom, is realizing that you are not binging, you are not abusing, but instead worshipping. You have been sucked into a self-destroying and self-consuming cult. The god you are worshipping thrives solely on the destruction of your being, and your fight is breaking the bonds of that cult.

At least from my own perspective.
    (I'm pretty irreligious)

  2. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I can fully understand what you mean.

Spirituality/Religion (whatever kind) is a place to gain strength and to take refuge to. When there is no religion, you're taking refuge to other things, i.e. porn or food, because the human has a tendency to compensate whatever unpleasant appears.

Monks don't have many distractions, and they also don't need, because they're fully focused on spirituality/religion. But most people in everyday life can't do this. So it's good to see spirituality/religion as one pillar for a healthy life, but there are also other ones, like work life, health, family and friends who are important.

Of course! Spirituality is one of the many needs that'll make a human more whole. For someone like myself who has never been religious, learning that humans have spiritual needs was completely foreign to me (Back in High School), but the more you think how it plays in your everyday life and your health. The more it makes sense.

    Yes but no,
there's a very specific region in the brain for faith and religion.

I agree, the need for spirituality and even ritual is always present in one form or another and is actively being replaced by other things, porn being one of them.

I like to think of it in a broader sense, Take sport, gyms and group exercise classes for example, I think for many this has replaced church going where it fills a void and gives you the promise of an almost "eternal" life by taking care of your health.

And lately I've been pondering the idea that rituals/shared beliefs are all about creating a collective that somehow can preserve the collective best interest or keep the individual obedient to the status quo.
The new rituals I've been thinking about were the constant obsessive hand washing/sanitizers and the face diapers/muzzles that are now rampant. It seems as a new ritual with the purpose of making us uniform in our obedience to the new global collective represented by a global government and the propaganda mouthpieces.

I agree a lot with what your saying. The church is also seen as a community (Think of old people. That's the only community a lot of them have).

While I don't think prescribing to a specific faith will make you a good person, having some sort of faith will help you be a whole person. Just look at 12 step recovering methods (Which does apply greatly to nofap) Have a belief in a higher being will aid your recovery. What that higher being is? That's up for the individual to decide.
