    Hi mate

You need to start by trying to understand the route of your addiction. Was it an experience during childhood that triggered something? How has your addiction developed over time?

I'm going to point you in the direction of a book that could change your life. It's called "Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life" by Jordan Peterson. In the book, he has a chapter called "Don't Hide Unwanted Things in the Fog". Within the chapter, he talks about how getting to the route of a problem can help you to overcome it.

There are loads of YouTube vids out there on it, so check them out first and then open up a Word document. Write down your first memory relating to your addiction. What happened? Really open up to yourself and be honest. I'm not talking a couple of sentences here; really go into the weeds. Keep going until you reach the point where you are now (there may have been a number of key events). Try and interpret what happened as though you are a friend. Some of the things may have been out of your control, especially if they are routed in childhood.

In short, the more you understand yourself, the more likely you are to overcome this. The main problem is that you don't know why you feel this way. You're in the "fog", so to speak.

Also, don't forget to write down the things that you like about yourself. Your addiction is only a small part of you, so don't let it dominate your life.

    Kind regards and best wishes
