The Chicken or the Egg?

I have always been a bit of an insomniac, or at least since a teen. Trouble staying asleep after not enough hours sleep. A low grade anxiety issue I assume, but I always woke up a bit too early with my mind racing. In the late 90s when we all went online, internet porn and cybering were too easy ways to pass the dead time till dawn. But then, after a while the draw of cybering (and the virtual emotional relationships i developed in the forums, some of which I still think back on many years later) as well as the draw of porn triggered me to wake up earlier and earlier, masturbate more and more. Since then, the internet has gotten faster, porn is better or at least more varied and useable, and I am not sure if my problem is insomnia, porn addiction, both or something else entirely. Since joining this site and in the 50 days since I stopped looking at porn my very early rising problem hasn’t really abated at all and instead I wake up and come here, or read the news. I wonder how many have found that the porn addiction arose in tandem with, or tied to, an arising insomnia condition.

 

I vote egg. Everything needs a place to start, it didn’t become a chicken while middle aged. Did the sleep clinic thing- those who can’t, teach. Those who can’t teach run sleep clinics. Inept.
