I have been reminded lately that one of the reasons I gave in to PMO was to self-comfort when I felt self-pity. Yesterday, I was lovingly pointed to this prayer. The behavior it asks God to lead us too feels nearly impossible for me but I also know that big improvements require some uncomfortable changes. I hope you find this as inspiring as I do.
    Litany of Humility
(Rafael Cardinal Merry de Val (1865-1930), the Secretary of State for Pope Saint Pius X)

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed,
Deliver me, Jesus. (repeat after each line)
From the desire of being loved,
From the desire of being extolled,
From the desire of being honored,
From the desire of being praised,
From the desire of being preferred to others,
From the desire of being consulted,
From the desire of being approved,
From the fear of being humiliated,
From the fear of being despised,
From the fear of suffering rebukes,
From the fear of being calumniated,
From the fear of being forgotten,
From the fear of being ridiculed,
From the fear of being wronged,
From the fear of being suspected,
That others may be loved more than I,
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. (repeat after each line)
That others may be esteemed more than I ,
That, in the opinion of the world,
others may increase and I may decrease,
That others may be chosen and I set aside,
That others may be praised and I unnoticed,
That others may be preferred to me in everything,
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should,

'No pain no gain' say the Anglosaxons. What in the life is valuable is always connected to some uncomfortable way to gain it. Let's take professional sport. To be a champion you have to train hard. The harder the more probability to win something. The same at school or university, the same on the way of faith, the same at work, in the family etc. 'No pain no gain principle works in all aspects of life.

The original sin distorted the basic truth and after it all people try to find a life without any pain but with maximum pleasure and trying to find this illusory, non-existent way they (we) explore some some destructive paths like drugs, alcohol, pmo , gambling, overuse of computers and tv - all possible to eliminate the pain. In the beginning the pain diminishes and lots of pleasure can be felt but ... soon after the pleasure pitch there comes the pit and much more pain comes back which must be treated by following pleasure pitch ..... and a full blown trap of addiction is ready.

Trying to avoid pain there comes much more pain. 'No pain no gain' - who doesn't accept this fundamental principle day after day they have zero chances to say good bye to their addiction. The is no other way. Doesn't Jesus say about it? Matthew 10:38 : "Whoever does not take up their cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me."
