Wanting to quit sexual sin, then being bombarded with confusing parables in Matthew

A group for members of all religions, or no religion at all, to talk about religion

  1. So I want to quit PMO, and to do that I need to read the bible, the new testament specifically, starting with matthew. Everyone says start with Matthew. Well the bible is more concerned with you becoming saved. When are you supposed to win against sexual sin then?

Hello Chris105 Iam new to this group but the only answer to your question is start anywhere but you must apply what you read to your life to win against sexual sin or any other sin.You will be saved when you start believing what you read and accepting Christ.

Perhaps there is no victory against sexual sin. Just try to go on as long as streaks as possible. Then try to get married someday. When married, try your best not to masturbate or look at porn.

I don't think we will ever reach a point where we become this glowing superhuman type being. We are always going to be part human and part animal. At least in this life.

Don't try to be perfect.. Just try for as long of streaks as possible.

High sex drive is a sign of a healthy body. If you were dying of cancer or had some other horrible disease, your sex drive probably wouldn't be as strong. Sexual desire is a sign of youth, of strength, of potential.

How often are you doing PMO or MO right now?

Try to cut it down more and more. I have a calendar in my room. Each clean day I put a circle, and each PMO day I put a line for each ejaculation.

So far in April, I PMO'd one time on April 1st, one time on April 4th, and one time on April 14th. I think this is a good strategy because it allows you to visually see your progress and on what days you fail.

Since I began doing this strategy about 2 years ago, my number of PMO days has drastically dropped.

Having read some of your posts, I would say you should probably start with the exact opposite part of the Bible, if you're still interested.

Ecclesiastes and Job to be specific.

I think a major point of Christianity is a dedication to the pursuit, and not the attainment of perfection. What is perfection? As defined in the bible, it is a serving love. It says " the greatest among you will be your servant"
Does it assume your perfection after you follow Jesus? No it doesn't.
At one point, the apostle Peter asked Jesus"how many times shall I forgive my brother who sins against me? Seven times?" and Jesus' answer was "I tell you not as many as seven, but seventy times seven"
That was hyperbole to say you never stop forgiving them.
He follows with a parable, it's in Matt ch.18 from v.21 on

And so, our relationship to God is to be like that. When we sin, we acknowledge it is wrong, and continue in the pursuit. Jesus was supposed to be a guiding beacon, to show us what we should be striving for, not an expectation to attain what he had. He loved, he healed, he gave, he sacrificed. Pursue these things, have faith in forgiveness when you stumble, but do not lose sight of the goal. Always strive for love. Do so humbly, not asking for any respect or veneration because you do good works. Jesus did not ask to be worshiped, though some did. Give love, and trust in God's love. When you stumble, stand up get back to the path. It's beautiful when it's lived.
